with all this talk about racing, it's getting me worked up.... (and no not in a nasty way....) I won't start racing at the beginning of next year, but I am definitely interested in learning as much as possible before I do start racing... if anyone wants an extra set of hands to work on their bike over the winter into next year that wants to give some tips to someone who knows very little about working on bikes... please let me know... seriously...
Oh know, another thread with 400 posts?
I'd offer to help but I dont know shit about racing.
2008 Honda CBR 600RR
The wrenching is only a small part of it.
first step: track days. Don't even think about racing until you know you do riding with others side-by-side on the track.... And even then, racing is still a whole different world.
Hope to see ya out there in the spring![]()

Good luck Erin.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

If you want a quick way to get used to riding in anger with others, pickup a pitbike and attend a few races. Less chance of major injury, no expectation of skill, and LOTS and LOTS of close in, bar banging and shoulder rubbing.
yeah, i read that... did you read the part where i said "Don't even think about racing until...."?
do that.

im having this same argument with my girlfriend. shes done 4 trackdays and now shes Jamie Hacking.trying to convince her that just knowing the line and getting you knee down isnt enough. she needs to be comfortable with close passing (passing and being passed) shes a solid yellow group rider but until i see her in the fast group holding her own. if she wants to race then im all for it. but i wish she would just be patient.
heres a couple questions for the racers:
1)how many trackdays /or tracktime did you have before you started racing?
2)what convinced you that you were ready to race?
for me:
1)2 solid years of trackdays for me (24+) with at least 8 15 min sessions a day and a max of probably 16-20 sessions.
2)my boss started racing and told me that i was faster than most of the guys out there. i never had any intention of racing but i thought "what the hell, lets see how i do" a 3rd in AM GTL and 3rd in AM LWGP(i think) and i was hooked.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

1.) Only 3 trackdays
2.) I think it was the race school in Arizona on a track and bike I wasn't familiar with when the instructor told me I was smooth and would do "just fine".
I definately could have had some more trackdays under my belt though! Look at my times! 1:33 my first weekend to a 1:23 my last. I coulda done better!

1) I did just about every single Tony's Track Day from August 2004 to the end of the 2005 season. Also did two days at VIR in 2005 and another three days in 2006 including the Cornerspeed Race School before I started racing at NHIS in the spring of 06.
2) My peers (Instructors at TTD's & fellow riders) all helped me decide I was ready for it. By that time I was a solid Blue Group rider & very rarely getting passed by anyone that didn't have race experience.
