I want to get my race license so I can start doing the friday practice sessions and maybe some saturday races. Mostly I want to get my race license to pay 70 dollars for the practice day rather than 250 for a penguin or tonys track day.
Checking the penguin school it looks like the first chance I will have to get my race license is june 13-14 for the 2 day school. Is there any other way to get my license without waiting this long?
First race weekend in April you can take the penguin basic class on the Friday before the race weekend. Complete the class, enter the rookie race and one extra race that weekend and you'll have your license![]()
You can do the Thursday and Friday open practices with just your penguin card if you don't want to get the race license

So if I just want to race cheap on thursdays and fridays all I will need to do is the first penguin school and get a card from them?
That's all you need![]()
Your card will also be good for a full year.
You won't even have to fully race prep your bike to run Thursday and Friday, it's the same basic prep as a trackday except you'll need a number on your bike and you'll have to replace the antifreeze with water![]()

And if you get your license (i know I've said this a few times before) the best tracktime bang for the buck will be to enter 1 sprint race per race weekend and you'll get close to an hour and 15 minutes of tracktime for $50![]()

Thats definitely some good information. I think ill do the penguin school and then some practice runs. I know im not good enouigh to be doing the saturday races just yet.
I just want to get a feel for racing and get better at it
U can always get your license in March down at VIR through Cornerspeed like I'm doing. Of course it's like... almost 700 bucks plus travel expenses, but you get 3 days of track time at an incredible facility![]()
oh btw... my suit is an Alpinestars GPU 2-piece... I'll be using that to race for a little bit, but I'd like to get a 1 piece though. We'll see.

I was actually looking at the GPU 1 piece or the fieldsheer revo suit. The revo is cheaper and ive heard good things about it. I may also check out the prices on the custom suits by Z leather.
