So whens the first LRRS race? lookin forward to it? what r u doin to prepare? what r ur goals for this year?
first race weekend is the last weekend in April... 29th & 30th & yer damn right i'm lookin forward to it![]()
![]()
I'm preparing by goin on a little trip this weekend![]()
And as for my goals... here's a direct copy/paste from a thread on the cheap bastid forum:
"Although I have nothing to gauge how I'll do as I've never even ridden an EX500, nevermind taken a lap around NHIS on one, I wanna be doin sub 1:30's within the first few weekends. I want to be top 5 by mid season and yes, it's a lofty goal, but by the end of the season I hope to be consistantly fighting for the podium in the NV PTWN class in the 1:26-7 range."

btw, i need to join that forum. cuz im obviously dirt poor and cheap lol.
19's
Win pretty much all the AM races I enter.
Race at Mid-Ohio in the AMA Grand Nationals and win.
Still can't decide when I want to move up to Expert. hrm.
Yea I won't be making the April races either. Have two work events that weekend that I'm the point man for. Boohiss. Looks like May for me.
Boston --> San Diego
personally, my number 1 goal is to pass my MSF course, get a bike, and start riding this summer. if i can do some track days i'd go nuts. if i could actually enter a race or two i'd be on cloud 9. i dont care if its a 2 minutes lap... if im there.... im happy.![]()

Nope, no one here's looking forward to it...
Dude, racers LIVE AND BREATHE for this stuff. It's hard to even keep my focus at work for the next month and a half. Adrenalin flows like saliva just typing about it.

My goals are lofty... Expert championship and lap record (sub 1:15.7) on a 125, but not out of reach.
Oh yeah, I'd like to help a few newbies along the way![]()
How expensive is it to run 125s compared to EXes, etc..
1:15 on the 125 is impressive, I need to make a point to come watch the 2-strokes when I make it to the track.

It's about halfway between an EX and a 600. 600 $ per weekend? I don't track it. I don't want to know.![]()
They are cheap to buy, but expensive to maintane. The thing is, my 10 year old bike ist still competitive, so you can subtract the cost of upgrading every 2 years from the 600 budget.
Tires are cheap and last 2 weekends at the top level.
To me, it's the most bang for the buck. Laptimes to dollars spent as a ratio seems to beat anything out there.
i hear the 2-stroke guys always talking maintenance. but thats all they tell me. can u be more specific? do you mean like top ends? how often do u need new top ends? do bottom ends go quickly too? what else? jsut curious.
When I was racing the 250cc class... I would do a Top End every other weekend.
The Crank (bottom end) would last all season.
Mine was a 2 cylinder, so all costs are double the 125cc class.
If I recall, it would be about $300 per weekend for maintenance (averaged... assuming 8 or 10 race weekends).
In other words... about $3000 per year.
Now... some people "stretch" their maintenance out further and get off cheaper.
Then again, I didn't have any failures. (related to maintenance, anyway)
what was costing 300 dollars on the race weekends where u didn't change the top end? since u changed the top end every other weekend.
he's saying it averaged out to be about $300/weekend

Top end every 300 miles (about 2.5 race meets) = 100 bucks
Brake pads every two weekends= 60 bucks
Cushdrives - one set per weekend 20 bucks
Clutch plates every 4 race meets - 50 bucks
Annual Maintenance
Complete rebuild - 600 in parts (minimum) 500 in labor (stock rebuild)
Optional-
Wheel bearings 30 bucks
Swingarm bearings - 40 bucks plus labor
Shock rebuild- 100 bucks
Clutch hub inner 50 bucks
Clutch hub outer- 80 bucks
It nickel and dimes you pretty well, but you always know exactly what you have underneath you. I.E. a bike that's not going to blow up.
mmhmmm. thanks for the info.
how fast do clutch plates, brake pads, and wheel bearings go by on the 4-stroke entry machines (ex500/sv650)
I hope you're kidding-- 1:15's on ANYTHING is impressive!!!Originally posted by benVFR

I've done nothing to prepare this year, though I may wash my truck and trailer before I leave.. or at least one side of the trailer so we have a nice white background for the projector again![]()
My goals? Stay up later, drink a little more... and make sure I'm still sleeping at least until the 8am practice starts.... That "good morning" wake up call we get drives me nuts![]()
I only plan on a few open practice sessions this season, probably Friday afternoon. For the weekend I plan on corner working 1 day and sport, dualsport or dirt riding the other![]()

That was definitely a milestone for me!
15.7 was my best lap at Loudon.
That was on my 1994 model year, TZ250cc bike ... with 75 horsepower.
Ahhh.... the memories.

Definitely didn't mean to disparage anyone else's goals for lap times...
Just in this mega-horsepower obsessed age it does seem even more impressive to someone like me when you can say you did it on a less powerful bike.
