I can't tell what happened. Anyone?
yea saw that... looks like the front end hydroplaned and pushed out...

I actually think it was the rear that hydroplaned and came out the left side of the bike first while on the power. The front looks like it stays pointed straight ahead, the rear wiggles around. Sad day either way.
Dammit.
A man of many names...Jay, Gennaro, Gerry, etc.
looks like a pretty standard high side. lost rear traction, re-gained it and got bucked. wonder if he had an airbag equipped suit and if so, the data would be interesting to see. I am pretty sure he does normally but perhaps it didn't fire. They can't prevent any and all collarbone injuries or breaks but they do seem to do a pretty good job normally.
Wonder if Pedrosa was using his Lorenzo voodoo doll in the pits when it happened. Hopefully Rossi will kick it up notch with Lorenzo out.
I take full responsibility for this. While at the COTA test, Dani Pedrosa sat at the lunch table directly behind me. When I got up, and being polite, I said, "good luck this season Dani", despite the fact he's my least favorite rider in MotoGP. I should have known that combination of factors would result in some sort of reverse jinx, all but guaranteeing him the championship.
Bummer :-/
Nah...He's totaly capable of lettin' this slip away...
I was under the impression one of the big advantages of the air bags was the fact that they do protect collarbones, which tend to be one of the more easier bones to break. No sure how the airbags protect the torso, don't think they inflate all the way down the body, just neck and shoulder area.

Dammit. There goes my fantasy roadracing team. Bugger.

The suits only protect the collarbone from the helmet... they don't protect the collarbone from a hit to the shoulder.
As my ortho guy said when I had broken ribs and collarbone... "they worked perfectly". They sacrifice themselves so other - more important - things don't get injured.
It will be interesting to see how long he is out for. Surgery will take a bit out of him, especially if the displacement requires a longer plate and significant amount of screws. Curious if there is more damage to the shoulder, any broken ribs, or concussion.

Man this sucks
That really does suck. I'd love to see Lorenzo get beat this season while at his prime.
Latest news says he is headed back to the track. His FP time puts him on the grid in 12th position...if he were to try to race. Doubtful but he will be at the track.
They say Lorenzo was cleared to fly back, but not cleared to race from what I understood. He was going to accompany his team for the weekend and work with them from the garage. But one never knows, these racers are tough bastards and usually need to be close to dead to not race! Must give props for that!
Sad about Marquez, he's one of my top guys and that was one hell of a scary crash!!!! He is so freakin' lucky to walk away with only broken pinky, broken toe, and a bruised hip! He took one hell of a beating during that tumble with the bike on top of him. Here's to him being able to race and do well despite the injuries.
One must wonder if this opens the door for Pedrosa to really take hold of the top spot.
And Crutchlow on the pole, sweet!!!
