Just wanted to give you guys a good alternative for the vortex units.
I picked up a screwoff gas cap from SSR, slingshot racing, they have a website and also vend on ebay. I got their cap off of ebay and it was like 50 bucks. I know the vortex ones are more money and these seem just as good if not better. Quality is top notch and the people were nice.
They are made for specific bikes as well (heads up Daniel 441), my particular application is vented. Installed in 30 seconds.

does it actually vent like its supposed to and not leak?
I've got one on my GS500, vents fine, and doesn't leak. It did however very quickly go from black to orange over the course of a couple months, so don't buy one if you're planning on the anodizing to hold it's color.
Had one on my Ducati 748 race bike it ran like crap did'nt vent .

The key to these is to not use them as a wrist exercise or other demonstration of your manliness. Just screw it on enough so it won't back off. Mr O-Ring under the cap will reward your judicious use of torque by not leaking, and allowing the vent to work as designed.
You shouldn't have to remove those. With them out of there, the cap can leak.
When I removed them and the cap the bike ran great, but when i only did the cap by it self I still had a problem when i got on the gas the bike would go nowhere and that's only when it happen, when I was getting on the gas.I had the ducati shop go over the bike and the could not find anything wrong .So I try putting them back next season and I see how it goes. Thanks

Remember to order another O ring for it. When it dries out and snaps, you will have no gas cap at all. I had to fed=x some to me and they only cost a few cents each but the shipping was lots. No one at the track has them in stock.

Hrmm... good idea. I've been toting my old cap assembly as a just in case measure, but that's easier to pack. What's the normal lifespan on those o-rings?
Edit - Update:
From the time I hit 'submit' on their contact form on the website to my cellphone ringing, approximately 7 minutes went by. Fortunately I'm in a good mood and cut them some slack for their tardiness. 5 new o-rings are on their way, he had the paypal bill request waiting for my attention before I was off the phone. Two big thumbs up to SSR from me!

As for the people questioning the valve's function, I don't really have input.
My bike won't really be ridden until the first race weekend most likely...
Cool tip carl. Thanks.
I imagine a little grease/lube on the O-ring could help to keep it from drying out and also promote a seal? Or would you not want any of that getting in your gas?![]()
