As many of you know, a fellow rider, Mike Clark #14, was injured seriously in a crash during Round 4. We are doing a benefit cookout for him Saturday night of Round 5, August 17th, to commence directly after close of racing at the CMP garage, 9N. We’re pulling out all the stops with smoked pork, Boston beans, collards, and corn bread. Donation is $20 per plate, all proceeds to directly benefit the Clark family. There is a poll on the LRRS Facebook page to indicate positive attendance, if you’re a member of the group please respond there. If you are not a member of the group and want to attend please respond in this thread with how many will be in your party so I can hopefully cook the correct amount of food.
In tandem we will also be holding a Slow Race competition at the CMP garage. Entry is $10, cash prize to the winner.
If you would like to contribute otherwise, please see the GoFundMe page; Clark's Race to Recovery

Donated to GFM. Crashing sucks.

For those that don't know, Mike was released from the hospital in Concord yesterday and moved to an inpatient rehab facility near his home in Vermont. If all goes well he'll be there for about 10 days and will be able to go home.
Boosh scored 3 or 4 adult big wheels, so it looks like we'll be adding a big wheel race to the mix![]()

This went well. Smoked 9 Boston butts, cooked about 30 lbs each of collard greens and baked beans, fed around 200 people. Between to plate donations, raffle, and silent auction we were able to get over $6,000 to the Clark family after covering costs. Lots of people helped with their time, donated raffle/auction items, etc. Mike was able to attend; he's in good spirits and has started an outpatient therapy program to help him get mobility back after the brachial plexus injury.

Well done Duncan and LRRS community
Bad circumstances, but it was great to be a part of the effort, a very cool thing seeing people work together this way.
Personally I got a lot of satisfaction out of my end. I love cooking, and I really love cooking for a large crowd. When I finish school next year I want to start a catering business...not full time, maybe 5-10 events a year...so putting on something like this is both challenging and educational. This is...by about twice the size...the largest group I've cooked for. Getting the math right for scaling up recipes, doing the right prep at the right time, and ultimately delivering three separate dishes on time, hot and fresh is a big challenge. The end result worked well although I'll admit I had a high waste percentage at the end. Well, the Boston butts didn't go to waste, but I did throw away about 10 pounds of beans and 5 pounds of greens. I could have cooked 7 butts and covered the crowd, but those leftovers were gladly taken away the next morning.

Thanks Paul. I think the real fun in it is seeing it come together at the end the way you planned it. Big fun.

Wait...can I just order a giant thing of Eastern North Carolina now?
A slab, a shoulder, whatever a “unit” is that gets done.
I make pay.

I can probably make something happen for you Chip. I have family coming to town the week before Labor Day through the weekend, I'm running the smoker twice I'm pretty sure, I should have room to put an extra butt on there for you.

I don’t know LoudBeard or the rider but was impressed with this initiative. Hope he gets all the help he needs.
