any of you racers or trackday riders carry life insurance? if so who do you use? I need to pick up some and liberty mutual's crazy expensive even if I only do trackdays.
and please skip the "don't tell them you race" logic. that wouldn't help my kid should the worst happen![]()

I have Northwestern and when I was racing cars it wasn't an issue.

Prudential. $500k for $100 per month. Smoker. 30 year term 40 year old.
I had to quit racing though. $700 a month if I stiill raced.
Do not lie to your life insurance company folks!
Harley's Ville, $250,000 and non-smoker, not on any medications, was 35 when I applied and it's $165.00 per year guaranteed for 10 years. As long as I never smoke, they have to give me the preferred rate at the end of 10 years.
I didn't mention it at the time and there is no wording in my policy about closed course competition or trackdays

I remember many many years ago, when I had a Nascar license, I had a policy thru Lloyd's only covered during race events and it was cheap,

Call Bryan Jennings of Race Insurance. He specializes in racing insurance for racecars drivers, motocross racers and roadracers. I have both life and disability. Life is $ 750 with full disclosure of regular racing. 39yrs nonsmoker through Mutual of Omaha.
Disability is through Lloyds of London. More expensive though.

Also, as a side note, if you have family then life insurance is important but if not realistically there probably isnt a need for life insurance. But, if you are permanently injured and cant earn at the same level life would really suck. Hence in my opinion long term disability is probably more important the life.

I have a whole life policy through New York Life, starts at $100k but is accruing value as I pay every month. Costs me $73 a month. Started the policy when I was 26, non-smoker, and single.
I also have a short term policy through Concord Heritage that i've had for 4 years now. costs me $13 a month, and picks up after 6 weeks of being out of work. Long term I get as a benefit from my employer and picks up at 6 months.
Disability insurance is key. Long term AND short term. You may have short-term through your work, but check in case you don't. Even if you are out for a month or two with a hospitalization, it will help cover stuff. More than 6 months becomes long-term (I think, it might be a year).

FYI, rates on life insurance are probably less favorable now than any other time. Rates and coverage are determined by IRR or internal rate of return and because interest rates are so low, the premiums for coverage have gone up. If you can wait until rates go up, you'll get better coverage for less money.
