That is at least 4 years old. No one was killed but one of the cornerworkers suffered serious injury. That video shows up pretty often...surprised it hasn't been here before...
....nasty...no question....

I've seen this one before. Looks pretty nasty. Ya wonder how something like this can even happen.....
If all else fails, Lean more....

Roadracing World Breaking News
To be honest, Im amazed it doesnt happen more often. The cornerworkers (especially in 3) usually have to jump right into the racing line, and it can be an example of target fixation at its worst. Ive seen cornerworkers have to run out with no traffic for whatever reason, something falls off a bike or whatever. Thank God it doesnt happen more often though
This just went on the list of vids I don't need my wife to see...
I almost think that would have gotten a red flag now rather than continuing under yellow.
Holy shit.......... WOW
I was racing that day. I was standing at the fence in turn 2 (I'm on the video very briefly). The video was taken by Jon Gold, an NESR member. He sold the video to the "You gotta see this" TV show for some tiny amount I believe ($175 I think). Should have charged thousands, it's been on tv a dozen times at least.
We were standing in turn 2 screaming at the cornerworkers to red flag the race, but they couldn't hear us. I have no idea if they were operating according to procedure, but I suspect not.
Everyone survived, although there were some very bad injuries. I heard one of the riders was later killed in a street crash.
derek
I think the downfall in this incident was the fact they couldnt get the bike up or moving more than anything. If they red flagged races everytime a bike went down, the racing would go twice as long with 1/2 the amount of laps. Usually it seems they grab the bike and haul it off. Unfortunatly, this time something went wrong, and with the amount of bikes that safely passed them, in theory if everything went right the racing coulda continued uninterupted. However, they were stuck out there, I dont know how communications work, but I doubt they were thinking to radio in they couldnt get the bike off the track. Maybe someone else couldve seen they couldnt get it off and red flag it. But to stand back and say it shouldve been red flagged immediately was a bit shortsighted I think.
I was mainly keying off the fact that the rider stayed down for a bit after the fall. That is why I'd have figured a red would have been thrown. It's one thing if he dumped and got right up, another if it's rolling on the ground for a min.
Very blind corner. Not as many reds if riders can see what is coming up.

I can't even see the vid at work (google video is also blocked) but I know exactly what vid it is... and it's been posted on here before.
I think either Gerard or Gordon or someone was also there w/ the person taking the video, not sure who.
And I agree with Degsy... that video should been sold for a LOT more than 175... and the money shoulda gone to the injured riders/cornerworkers fund.

That was me (ex) friend rick racing. He wasn't right for a while. I think it's vincef2 that you can hear talking in the video.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
Agreed, the rider when down and didn't move in the middle of the race line....Clue #1, then when he did move he immediately signaled for the ambulance... Clue #2, but the call for the red flag has to be called in from the main office so it was their fuck up and not the actual corner workers that there was no red flag. The corner workers were however to blame for turning their backs on oncoming bikes. That is the first thing they teach you in corner worker school is to NEVER turn your back on the racers and to protect yourself above everyone/thing else.
Agreed. The cornerworkers have to call in to control (up in the grandstand) to get "authority" for a red flag. I believe that in that circumstance, it should definitely have been called a red flag and I think if I was a corner worker I would have just gone ahead and raised the flag, despite maybe never being asked to corner work again because of it.

That is awfull. Don't know what to say. I've seen some shit at the track. Kupernicks crash in 3 was a good one. Or coming down the hill and seeing SMF laying flat out on his back, Jersey piled up under 3 bikes up in the bowl, just to name a few. It sucks but it's the risk we take evrytime we hit the start button. Sucks no matter what.
