    Question Mounting transponder

I was wondering if anyone could make a recommendation of the best place to mount the mylaps transponder on the 848?

    Much appreciated!

Most will mount them on the forks.

I'm not certain that it will have enough clearance from the skins, do you mount it on the outside of the fork, the front or the rear?

doesnt really matter as long as it doesnt interfere with your steering

    Re: Mounting transponder

You can see my transponder just under my clutch lever. Miles will have mounts at the track if you need one.

Yellow zipties on left fork leg. Thats the mount

The staff that scans them on pre-grid prefer that it goes in the front facing forward. Use zip ties to mount the bracket to your fork tube. Then wrap it in painters tape so the bracket doesn't freely spin.

On the end of a 10' pole, tied to a C class rocket motor wired to the horn button for those 'close' races.

    Re: Mounting transponder

Iirc there was a change to the type of transponder not too long ago. Having recently gotten one in trade how do i make sure I have the right type? I'm asking mostly because what I have (wired not battery) does not appear to have any provision for a mounting bracket. It does have tabs with holes on the bottom that I assumed are for mounting so i was just going to ziptie it to the fork leg.

    Re: Mounting transponder

There was no change to the type of transponder recently ian. The rest of ccs changed to westhold, but lrrs and ama both use amb.

I don't know what the wired ones look like, but the wireless ones have a mount you can get from miles at street and comp.

I have the wired one. just zip tie through the holes and throw some tape around it so it doesn't turn around the fork leg and you're good.

    Re: Mounting transponder

FYI, the change is for all CCS regions except North East. so if you plan on racing at NJMP or anywhere outide of NHMS, you'll need to rent a Westhold for $25/weekend or buy one for $80.

    Re: Mounting transponder

what others say - the front forks pointing down towards the track is correct...
the full description on mounting is:

"Transponders must be mounted at the front of the motorcycle as close to
the axle vertical center-line as practical. They must be mounted vertically,
with the fixing pin up, at a maximum of 120cm or 4 feet from the race
surface with no obstruction downwards. This means NO metal or carbon
fiber between the transponder and the track surface. The maximum
temperature should not exceed 50c or 122F. The holders should be fixed
in a safe and workmanlike manner using tye-raps or pop rivets. The fixing
clip should be pushed through the post as far as possible."

For some reason the 2012 rule book in section 7.16 stated see section 19 for mounting- but the above was missing....

We will correct this going forward...

p.s. just because it isn't in the current rule book does not change the facts....
