The folks over at Superbike Planet put up some galleries today of Loudon pics from the '80s. Not a whole lot of racing pics, mostly just the crowds and surroundings. I've seen a few of these before, you probably have too. Makes for good browsing, though...

Nice find.
This one is pretty cool:
I was pretty young the last time I attended an AMA race at Loudon, but how did it go from "infamous crowds" to ... well.... no crowds whatsoever?

There's a picture of Ken in there if you look hard enough.

The majority of those folks were only there to see the AMA racers? How do we make it more of a spectator friendly event?

I used to make acytalene bombs up there. I am very glad to be on the other side of the fence now.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

First off, I got those pictures years ago through the USCRA. I sent them to Dean Adams and he said that he probably wouldn't post them. Somebody else sent him the same pictures a year or two later and he posted them. Dean has issues with people taking his stuff. I sent him three emails explaining that the photographer who took the pictures was Gary Remal. That error was never fixed!
AMA #53 is Nick Richichi, who won the Classic in 1981. Look at the guy behind the bike with the 'fro and the glasses. That's LRRS Asst. Race Director Alan Hathway.
Here's another:
The guy with the beard in the white pants holding the real Johnny B's bike is Jerry Wood.

Some caption corrections at a glance: In 1989, construction was beginning for NHIS. The mounds of dirt in the paddock were a byproduct of these preparations, not dams.
Scott Russell (#22) and Jamie James (#48) rode for Yosh in 1989, with Jamie winning the Classic that year. Lynch and Jacks were a few years later.

No, 1989 was the last year of the old Bryar Motorsport Park. The track was supposed to be ready for that season, but Bob Bahre hit a fresh wall of litigation which delayed things for a year.
For the first LRRS event in 1990, the course outside the oval wasn't even done. Racers coming out of Turn 2 went down the entire back straight right into Turn 11! I think the lap times were about 35 seconds that weekend.
