Just confirmed, I can get the time off, so I'll be doing the Oct 5th school, and if everything goes right I'll do my rookie race on the 6th. (Doc, if the offer is still there for the Hawk for my rookie race, I'll take you up on it, just let me know how much and what kind of evening beverage to bring, or however you want to be repaid. If my lap times are low enough, can I sub for ya in a race or two?)
I also took the following Monday off, so I'll be making a weekend out of things, watching racing Saturday and Sunday, as well as roaming the pits and being generally nosey. Monday I'll be doing the same thing to the vintage racers. Who pits where so I can drop by uninvited? : )
Anyone else doing the school Friday?
I'm doing the advanced school on friday ... so stop and say hello

i don't ... but I got a certificate for $90 ... so its $10 more than Friday practice, with some more track time and some schooling
I am hoping its going to be Eric as I have heard good things about his classroom sessions, and track walk.

: Just leave me the fence for the observation deck to see about 75% of the track.
Welcome to the maddness.

Didn't realize you could corner work for partial days, that may be a damn fine idea.
As I don't have a race bike proper yet, do I still sign up for a normal race and just not show, or do I just sign up for the rookie race and thats it?
you have to sign up for a regular race if you want to run the rookie race.

Your $25 entry fee is refunded, you get paid and you eat dinner for free. Like SMF mentioned, "best seats in the house. You can learn a great deal just by watching what a bike on the track can do from the sideline.

I think I'll work Saturday afternoon then. And I guess I'll sign up for the motard race, and accrue my first DNS.![]()
I'll be up Thursday Eve as well.
My offer stands. With the condition of you wreck it or damage it you bought it. Not the repairs but the WHOLE bike $2500.
As for beverages... Guiness draft is always good.
Deal?

Don't forget, you'll have to buy numbers at street and comp to put on the bike.

I will be there too. I won a raffle at the August 28th LAPS track day and I have to use the gift certificate this year. I will not be racing because the bike is not ready. I may enter a race next year.
See you there. Look for the big dope on the KTM.
Thanks,
Nathan
So, assuming I rent an EX500 for the whole weekend, should I just sign up for Production Twins and call it good, or make a whole weekend out of it, GT Lights and Lightweight Sportsman too?
Potential itinerary:
Friday
- Get schooled but proper
Saturday
- Race 0 - Rookie Race
- Race 9 - NV LW Sportsman
Sunday
- Race 1 - NV GTL
- Race 7 - NV Production Twins
And I assume I'm going to get charged $50 for a license that expires at the end of the weekend, and get to pony up $115 to play next year?
I would just do Shitty Mcbikefest on Sunday.
ALOT of crashes in GTL

Wonder what makes GTL a rolling yard sale? Well, guess if it's going to be a crash fest it'll make for good spectating, right?
I dunno. Could be because they're longer than normal, so people pushing that little extra don't run out of laps before they run out of traction. They're also the first races of the day. It seems like more often than not, they end up going the same or less distance than a sprint race and you pay more for entry fees.
And as far as i'm concerned, crashes only make for good spectating in NASCAR...not so much when I'm due out on the track for an upcoming race
Ok, I'm trying to make sure I can actually afford this weekend...
So far I've got the following costs:
$250 - Penguin School
$50 - LRRS License
$120 - 2 Sprints
I'm also shelling out a bit to McBiggity in thanks for letting me use the EX500. So with gas/food/etc I'm already well over the $500 mark for the weekend. I also know I'm missing some fees. I assume I'll be paying an entrace fee to the track on the 5th and again on the 6th? (Do I get tagged for each day as I won't be staying at the track overnight?) Also, will I be required to get an AMA membership? (Another $40).
The costs are right on the border of making more sense to hold off, pack away some money over the winter, and start next spring with enough cash to pickup a race machine. Are my numbers right, what am I missing, and there aren't any combo deals/packages/etc I can snag to cut the costs?
