How much is the gate fee?
You only need to pay the gate fee once as long as you don't take your bracelet off. I think it is $45...?
I'd say $500 is more than enough and the first weekend is always your biggest. You could corner work to defer come of the cost.

Laura from US Marshals advised against my cornerworking my first weekend, I'd miss a practice session Saturday (Which, come to think of it, am I allowed to run the practice? I don't get my license till AFTER the rookie race, which is AFTER practice?) and she suspects I might be just a BIT busy trying to process what I've learned. : ) She did give me a name to lookup Saturday if I want to help cornerwork for the Vintage racing on Monday though.
I wonder how much blood I can safely donate before the 5th...![]()
Yes...you will be eligible for practice on Saturday with your Penguin cert as long as you register for a race...however, Sat morning you'll be VERY busy because you'll have to do the license paperwork and your post-reg for the races...and then get your number...and then get through tech. You mostly likely won't have enough time Friday night to do it. With the ex500 you'll be in combined practice sessions 3/4. You'll probably end up missing the first round unless your first in line to the license window, but you should be able to get out for the second round.
After (i think) 10 am, you'll have to go to the Penguin garage and sign up for the rookie race. Then there'll be a rookie rider's meeting in the garage right before the regular rider's meeting.
I agree with not worrying about cornerworking your first weekend, however, If you are looking to offset a little bit of the cost by doing it, I'd think about doing the rookie race and the LW Sportsman on Sat. Run practice on Sun (for some experience) and then cornerwork sunday afternoon. That would get you your gate fee plus $60 ( i think)
btw...they will go over all of those processes in the classroom at Penguin after the day is over on Friday (which is why you won't have time to do it)
Chatted with my wife, and a couple friends, and decided I'm going to just corner work this weekend. This winter I'll start packing away cash when I can, so when spring rolls around I can afford a machine, Penguin, and a full race schedule. I'll be wandering the pits too to meet some of you guys in person as well as poke at machines so I can figure out what I want for spring.
Hopefully when I do start, I'll be dragging an ex LRRS racer back to the track with me. : )
that makes sense... but it's very un-racer-like you should be spending all your money, including that which you don't have, to make every race possible. all logic aside![]()

I'll be there Friday the 5th. Also doing the beginner course. Never been on a street race track before, should be fun!
I'm not sure if I'll be able to race on Saturday, but I would like to. need to see how the cash flow is.![]()

Nope, I'm going to just hand around/corner work for the 6th and 7th. Say Hi to Growler for me, he's one of the instructors for the advanced class.
