"Oiling the Track" crashes on the track

Not to start a big argument here, but what are you guys doing?

My race bikes are held together with zip-ties and safety wire, often filled with whatever 10W40 I can find. And by whatever, I mean I'll dump canola oil in it if I have to and toss whatever filter I can find on that fits.

I've been riding at the track in all sorts of weather and conditions over the last 10 years & I've yet to experience any sort of oil loss.

Even when intentionally barely spinning my K&N oil filter on, I still can't get to a point where I dump oil everywhere and piss off the entire track community.

We see them every year around this time & I'm very skeptical about believing the whole always use an OEM oil filter myth. Are you guys part retarded or what?

Always wondered this myself. Do you guys, and Tony, require safety wired oil filters? If not, perhaps its time. Even if I'm not riding my bike on track I safety wire my oil filter just for a safety standpoint.

Re: "Oiling the Track" crashes on the track

All it takes is a hose clamp.... a fifty frikkin cent hose clamp (if that) and maybe a foot of safety wire.

LRRS requires it, TTD requires it, Bomo requires it, I think Penguin requires it... don't see why any track org wouldn't require it. Risk is low but so is the "hardship" of complying is almost nothin.

Even with no safty wire, if you're losing an oil filter, drain bolt, or filler cap...you pretty much suck as a mechanic and shouldn't touch bikes. IMHO of course

If your aftermarket filter explodes, you have answered your own question. For a couple extra bucks and being able to support my local dealer, I'll always use an OEM filter. Peice of mind, and how often do you hear of OEM filters exploding?

Are you sure it was oil on the track? I heard it was Engine Ice. That shit is dangerous, it's like ice. Makes your tires slip like they're cold.

Re: "Oiling the Track" crashes on the track

Certain bikes like say, early Triumph TT-600s will pump oil out the breather when tipped on their side still running. It would do it so bad on a friend's that it would fill the airbox and hydrolock if you didn't get to the killswitch quickly. Never did get a chance to put the updated breather valve on it...

I lost 3 rear tires, 3 oil filters, and 2 gallons of new 300v oil. Whoever that prick was, is a d-bag.
