so why do some motogp riders extend their inside leg coming into turns? stretching or just differentt style?
Because Rossi does it and he's fast...
Air brake?

Seems like as good a time to stretch as any.

When you brake hard enough the rear comes off the ground and wants to wag around. These guys are good enough that they can control that, and having the bike point to the inside helps setup for the turn. The leg on the inside acts to counter balance that and they can apply more brake pressure while backing it in without ending up like Herrin did in DSBK in 2010. My theory anyways...

There was a corner in MotoGp today where 4 guys at once were all doing it entering the turn....looked kinda funky

I heard it adds like 20HP.

I don't know, but you can't ride that way! It's like riding a Motard with a foot out on a roadcourse, can't do it, doesn't work!
There is only one logical reason these guys have their foot hanging off, it's to signal riders in back of them that there is sand in the corner!

It's hard to imagine that nobody figured out this little secret decades ago. Why would they suddenly start doing it now?
2023 KTM 890 Adventure R
Wasn't it Valentino's crew chief that said they cannot spot any differences in his cornering when he dangles a leg or not looking at the telemetry?
its probably also how each individual does their downshifts. some people bang them all at once and let the clutch out at the end. some, like me do them individually.
look at how much body position has changed over the last couple decades. 2-3 decades ago people were just starting to hang off the bike. its an evolution.

Yes I often do this. I started doing it for fun to see what it would feel like. Then it seemed to help with "balancing" the rear when I was going into T1. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. That being said, I am NOT signaling to anyone behind me. Besides, they shouldn't be looking at me anyway. i.e. Target fixation= Crash.
I'm gonna get a prosthetic leg, and just attach it to a hinge on the side of my bike, so it always dangles when I'm turning.
