[posting here so we all can see what's planned]
Eric,
Any idea what, if any, Amateur recognition or awards there will be at the banquet this year?
This will undoubtedly influence some Amateur racers' attendance, and has been a source of confusion and disappointment in the past.
I've emailed Wanda and Anastasia as well, but wasn't sure who would have the best info. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for asking about this Brady.
Eric, I agree that any info you can give could go a long way towards helping guys decide if they are going. Last year, while I missed it, most of my team felt very snubbed that they thought our very own Keith Draghi(769) would be recognized for the amateur LWSS "championship." They all went based on that understanding, and we're disappointed.

Don't get me wrong, I would absolutely love to see AM championships....but I thought they announced last year that they done away with them?

Yeah, my question isn't about what should or shouldn't be recognized, whether it's called a "championship" or not, but a request for accurate info about the proceedings.

Guy who won it is running 15's. Deserved.

I thought the scandle was the KID who won it's father had made a sizable donation to either the air fence or Hornbecker fund. My memory is fuzzy, but I remember a couple of those gripes.

+1
Not so sure about that but I wouldnt doubt it. They have money and his dad is generous with it. Doubt it was a deciding factor. Part of the other crying was about his bike because it was a very well built ama bike.
He won ROTY and deserved it imo.
The amateur achievement award went to Rich Maracina. He had the most points.
I'm not trying to take anything away from what the kid is doing, 14-15's is no joke. I'm just regurgitating from memory here.

not last year he wasn't. Dude has some talent though and he's running extremely well this year in a tough class with the EXs.
I just checked the rulebook from last year and I couldn't find anything on the Amateur Award but might have missed it. ROTY with the way it was worded he shouldn't have won it but its Vanson's call. The way its now worded for this year is basically how they awarded it last year. Its worded much better now. I wouldn't have been pissed last year had it been worded correctly the whole time but the way it was I should have won it.
I'm not sure if they changed the amateur award and gave it to Maracina or if they just recognized him with some other award. I remember Eric did say something on here about it some time after the banquet.

I will follow up on this. Without getting too specific, there were issues last year where the counsel of several experienced LRRS people did not effectively reach those who made decisions about the banquet. None of the faux pas of last were were made as a result of intentional malice or undue influence, it was simply that they did not have the information to make the right calls. I think that there was enough feedback to that effect that it should not happen again.
As for Amatuer recognition, etc.... please give me a couple days and I'll come up with some concrete answers

Sorry about the delay, but I just wanted to give an update. I made requests with the powers that be, but I got the answer that I expected...that we need to wait until after NASCAR is gone before any decisions will be made regarding LRRS. The whole crew is focused on that right now, and understandably so....95% of the income for NHMS comes from 2 weekends.
So, we'll have to sit tight for the moment. I know that there are a people at NHMS that want to recognize the AM's, it just needs to get budget approval.
thanks Eric, we'll sit tight and understand the Nascar priority.
