What's the ruling on passing during warm up laps? I thought the whole idea is to go out and ride as hard as you can to get heat in the tires. Unfortunately, it seems that in Novice, a lot of the guys just go out and putt around for 3/4 of the lap. I was going to pass a bunch of people but thought better of it lest I get in trouble.

I pass people all the time. I run that lap like it is a race lap but slightly less aggressive.

I can only speak from experience... don't be an angel cruz (asshole) and run hard and fast down the chute into 3, only to overshoot your brake marker, cut perpendicularly through the race line, and high-side yourself to the moon in 4 as you try to cut back into traffic.
Fast enough to warm up my body, suspension & keep heat in my tires, slow enough to look at the track & look for anything "new" - ie. Speedy dry, gouges, debris, etc.
Pass at will but make it clean.

My bad. I'm on a proxy out here and I pressed Post twice.
Thanks for clearing this up.

i used to do the put around thing but soon wised up. track day pace. i dont think i get a knee down anywhere but i like some speed in there. some hard accelerations and some hard braking to get the suspension moving and the brakes hot.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

1 thing I learned since I started racing....I ALWAYS do a practice start when I come out of hot pit. If I'm gridded up front, I take a few extra seconds to launch...1 - you get to practice your start... 2 - you don't catch the rest of the field until the train that starts in 11....

It is a excellent time to practice the wheelieing skills. Endos look rather cool coming to the grid. Lets everyone know you are serious.
Or a nut.
