    Penguin School question

I found out last week that I'm going to have some time off between school and work and wanted to get out on the track as much as possible. I found out Tony's was filled up for June so I've been looking everywhere I possibly can to get on the track.

I did want to get my license this year, but not sure when. My question is I saw they have a date on the 30th and then a 2-day school in June. I was thinking about doing just a trackday on the 30th and then the basic school in June, but here's my question would it be more beneficial to do the basic course the first date and then the advanced school? Don't really know too much about Penguin in general so wasn't really sure how big of a difference there is between the two.

I already have some experience on the track. Was hoping to get on the track as much as possible this summer and race the next. Unfortunately work may interfere with that.

    Re: Penguin School question

Basic school ( I just did it) doesn't really teach you to ride or race, its mostly rules of racing and of coarse some track time. The 2 day from what I am told is the aggressive hammer down race training. Track day? If you are talking about the Penguin track day its Ducati only - and work? sick days rule...

    Re: Penguin School question

The Advanced School is usually populated with people who have already been racing and are looking to improve their lap times with a more intensive course.

Not sure how much 'some' experience is...

If it's a lot then go for it. You'll probably get a lot out of it. If its not...then you might be better off doing a few more track days.

...sort of on the fence here so maybe someone with a stronger opinion will chime in...!

Do a track day or two, then the basic class. Get your license and some racing experience then take the advanced.

The advanced school is primarily for racers looking to lower their lap times.

    Re: Penguin School question

i took the basic class one weekend, didn't race, then the next weekend i took the advanced class and the rookie race.

like they said the basic class is more class room training to teach you the ropes of being in a race environment (very different than a track day) and the advanced class is more about the riding and learning to be fast....but i think no matter what you'll get a lot out of it.

    Re: Penguin School question

Yes I realize what the basic school is. Like I said I wanted to get my license at some point this year. Penguin also has sign up for just a track day no school. At least that's what it says on their website?

Thanks though guys. I don't have a ton of track experience nor have I actually raced so I may just sign up for the basic one on their 2-day course and we'll see it's still a tossup on their friday event. I guess there's another track org up there right around that time.

    Re: Penguin School question

I would check if you're even allowed to do the advanced one without having done the basic? The way I saw it is its for racers looking to drop time, I would GUESS they'd want you to have at least the basic knowledge of the flags and rules before getting into the advanced situation, but I could be wrong

I realize this. There's one day that is on May 30th and then they have a two day school on June 10-11. I wasn't planning on trying to take the advanced first lol.
