Switching to Pirelli this year. I've been running Dunlop GP-Pro's and 212's before that. I also have a set of Bridgestone rains, but one of the issues I ran into during round 7 last year was bridging the gap between DOT's and rain tires. On Sunday I ended up running DOT's, rest of the field was pretty much all on rains...they also all pretty much cooked their rain tires. My DOT's did alright, but still pretty lose. Track basically had a decent dry line with a lot of wet pavement mixed in. Looks like Perelli makes a wet tire:

So my main questions are:
1.) Does anyone run a wet tire? Seems like when we get rain, the conditions favor a wet rather than a full rain tire.
2.) Are they SS legal?
3.) Do you sell them?
I went to MMI I know what Im doing here chief
nvm, you were asking about a wet tire not a rain tire. I suck at reading.

I wish I had just run the DOTs that day. I learned that a melted rear rain is sketchy in its own uniquely alarming way.
Well, I'm sure someone, somewhere, runs them...but we've never sold a set.
If you have a third set of wheels, they are a decent option. The problem in NH is that the weather changes minute to minute, so they could bridge that gap, like you say.
We can get them for you, for sure. We don't generally carry them, because they aren't popular. As for SS legal, they are per 20.2.2.8 of the rulebook regarding wet events and rain tires.
Shoot me an email at sales@gomtag.com and I'll get you pricing on these, and your dry tires also.

cooking rains is all part of racing. I bought my michelin rains in 2011. They've been through a few races just like the ones in October. still useable. ScottG once told me don't worry about cooking them. its a race, so what if they only last that race.

Thanks Kurtz. It isn't so much that I'm scared of cooking a set of rain tires, but conditions too dry for rains are just as bad as too wet for DOT's. What I mean is I'm looking for an advantage. Particularly when I've seen conditions more frequently favor a wet vs a rain. We get lots of short storms, but not an awful lot of time when its actively raining and seeing soaked track conditions. Usually it seems that it'll rain, stop, then a race or two gets run and the track dries out a lot and stays at that intermediate period. Enough so I think I'd opt for keeping the wets mounted, and the rains on the shelf.
Fuck it, Kurtz, email inbound. Someone has to be the guinea pig.

You're setting a dangerous precedent.
