It's time to put the shout out for crew for the 2004 race effort.
We need people who can get to all or nearly all of the race weekends at Loudon. I will also be racing the VIR series so I will want a couple of people who can help with driving down there and crew for me down there.
We need you to be able to get to the track by 7am race days and stay until the place closes up (5 ish).
What can we offer you? An experience as a crew member of a race team, camaraderie, many many fun times and food/drinks for the weekend while you are there.
People helping me with VIR will get some out-of-pocket expenses paid.
Who's in?

While it's certainly possible that there's a bit too much testosterone in the pits, do you really think castration is the answer?Originally posted by scootertrash

I'd really enjoy helping out up there if I can swing the time. What kind of commitment are you all looking for? And when do you need to know by? It's still quite far away, I can't say with absolute certainty at this poitn what my weekends will look like next spring...

Are you guys serious about getting a school bus? I saw one up in Maine for sale, it wasn't a shortbus and it wasn't a full size, kinda in the middle? It was an Iternation and looked in VERY good shape, guessing late 80s, early 90s for the year. I "might" be going up there this weekend to look at some property and do some work to mine, i can stop and get some more info if you guys are interested?

If you are serious about the bus thing my uncle works for one of the largest bus fleets in the north east.. Those 3/4 ones with diesel good tires and we can pick which one we want. They have yards of them..

2004 NESR Pit Crew.
OK…this is just a quick pulse check to see where everyone stands as of right now. From the posts above, it looks like the following are interested in joining the pit crew for 2004:
- Gordon (scootertrash) - full time
- Bryan (Bentbryan) - full time
- Mark (vipersrt1) - full time
- Steve (snaggle) - full time
- Darrell (Honclfibr) - part time
- Mark (TLRMan) - part time
- Ed (Pinhead) - swings both ways – part time racing / pit crew
- Spence (DaSpence) - racing / pit crew / gone to Florida ?? What’s the scoop ?
What about the rest of ya ? Ryan…are you in? I hope so. Chris…what about you? We need ya, man ! Sara ? We promise we won’t call you Sarah if you help out. I haven’t seen Gonzo on the site for a while…maybe he’s having computer problems. I am going to assume he’ll be helping out at least part time.
Anyone else out there interested in working on the team? We can use all the help we can get. If you are a total newbie, that’s fine. You don’t have to be a mechanic to help out, we need people with other skills also. We need people to help with paperwork (registration, grid sheets, sponsor info, etc) We need people to run errands (pick up parts, food, gas, etc) We need people to run the stop watches and pit board, etc. We need umbrella girls.
It’s about one weekend a month. I haven't seen the '04 schedule yet, but the '03 schedule is posted on www.lrrsracing.com and I expect the schedule will be similar. That web site also has tons of good info about race rules, etc.
Here’s the typical race weekend schedule:
- Thursday 6:00pm – Set up pit area (usually a couple of local team members only)
- Saturday 7:00am – Pits start to get active. First practice is at 8:00am. Most of the NESR racers show up hung-over after 8:00 and miss first practice.
- Saturday 5-6pm. Start cleaning up the pit for the evening. Daily award ceremony around 6:00pm for those interested in watching.
- Saturday night – party at the Stonner crib.
- Sunday 7:30am – Pits start to get active. Racers show up complaining of lack of sleep and being hung over. Pit crew is alert, cheerful, and ready to satisfy their every whim.
- Sunday 5-6pm. Tear down pit. Attend award ceremony. Go home.
Some team members camp at the track in tents or in campers (rest rooms and showers are near our pit area). Some end up crashing at Jay’s house.
We typically have two types of members. Those “full time” who make almost all races during the year, and those “part time” who sort of show up randomly. We need a core group of full timers to make the team successful, but welcome part timers also.
I am not sure where everyone is pitting next year. I assume the NESR tents will be in the usual spot. I hope everyone else pits in the same places as last year. It was great having the Collision Pro guys, the DART team, Bob, Mark, etc all in the same area. We were able to share parts, skills, tools, etc and it worked out great.
What are the benefits to joining the team you ask ?
- You get to wear a wicked cool track bracelet.
- You get to be a part of the legendary NESR racing team. Great stories for the grandkids.
- VIP passes to Stonnerstock ‘04
- Pit bike races.
- Your very own “…@nesrracing.com” email address.
- The satisfaction of knowing you are part of a finely tuned team.
So…who else is in ???
Gordon- as per the past coupla years: can't make firm commitment for the full year, but-- if you're just trying to get a general idea-- plan to make at least 1 race day / month during the season. prolly alternate between cornerworking & general "heyboy" in the pits.![]()
