On SV's at least (and presumably GSXR's since they use the same p/n peg), a left Woodcraft peg will oblong and subsequently not allow you to shift after the peg impacts the ground with significant speed/force. I'm sick of DNF'ing because of this, and am looking for opinions on other rearsets. I love supporting a local vendor, and there are of course tons of spares available at the track - but neither does me any good in a race. I'd rather have 75% of the peg break off yet still be able to shift, than have only 10% of the peg grind down but be unable to change gears.
What rearsets have people had good luck w/after a crash?

Bill, Woodcraft actually just is coming out with new pegs that will break instead of grinding down. I have one in my spares box and am waiting for them to come out with the new design for the other side, then I will switch over. I can get you a pic of what they look like if you want.

if you're talking about the foot peg, some people drill a hole in the middle of the peg to weaken it. That way it just breaks off that piece.
If you're talking about the shifter peg, Woodcraft already has folding pegs available on their site. I think the shifter one is $18 and the brake one is $15.
I'm going to replace mine with the folding pegs next time I order.
Here is a pic of the new style Woodcraft peg.
The holes that you see are all around the peg in that area. (4 holes all together.)

Thanks Christian - I actually just spoke to Eric about this, and he informed me of the same. I'm going to give the prototypes a shot (and hopefully not test them soon).

I would love to hear from Eric if the new style is to specifically address the issue of rounding off and preventing shifting. If so, imma buy me a set of those ASAP.

The new pegs are slowly being introduced, model by model this year. They have a few updates from previous models:
1) You can see the waffle pattern on the face as well as the extra flutes cut on the end - all done in the spirit of getting more grip
2) Weakening holes milled about 1/3 of the way form the end of the peg to provide a break off point. This will help absorb some of the energy of the crash and transfer less force into the peg, base and bracket. All this will help the durability of all the other parts of the rearset.
3) Slightly thicker wall on the peg once you are past the break off points - giving these pegs a little more "meat" to slide on if the end does break off.
I expect full integration by the end of the season.....we are always looking for ways to make things better. These updates are from rider feedback, so keep it coming.

As for availability - the pegs for the newest model rearsets that we made are going to be done first and we will slowly work our way back until we have them all done. So, if your model is not there yet it will probably only be a matter of a few months before we have them available as spares.
Thanks, Eric.
So one of the goals of the new design is to help prevent the shifter & brake pedal arms from getting jammed up after a slip & slide?
Do you think it would make any difference if the shear point was moved one notch closer to the outer end of the peg?

Great idea, I'll definitely be snagging a set.

Based on Eric's suggestion to me, I was able to get my seemingly-permanently jammed peg out of the pivot last night. I threaded the allen screw back into the peg, put the whole ass'y in a vice, and hammered on the screw. Peg popped out after a dozen or so blows. I plan to attack the peg (and my other "spares") and pivot with a Dremel slightly to hopefully keep them as usable spares.

its a good thing I crash on the brake side all the time. I gotta replace that peg cause its very worn down, don't think its bent at all though. that thing is strong and has taken some major abuse hitting the ground. but I'm not on an SV either so the peg design is different anyway.

Are these new pegs(foot and toe) available yet to buy for replacement parts?
We are introducing these pegs as we move through our older stock - so it depends on the model. Some kits already come with them, others will be later in the year.
Let me know the model that you are looking to get them for and I'll let you know if we have them done yet. We have a ton of different peg styles, so it takes a little bit to get it all done.
I used them myself last weekend on my Ducati, and there is a big step forward in grip.....hopefully I don't get to test the breakaway feature anytime soon.
SV650 would be a great peg to have on the early list![]()
The older I get the Faster I wuz
I am assuming none for the older gsxr then. I thought I recalled them using same pegs as SV
