What kind of drive ratio are you using for NHIS?
I have 2.81 stock, but just bought the stuff for a 3.13 and 2.94 set-up... Thinking of going to the 3.13, and if I need more gear, step it back down.
Just bought a 520 set-up, with a 15,16, and 47. I do have a 45T rear, but it's on my rain wheel, and it's a little work, so I'd like to use the new 47.
I was having a hard time pulling out of 12, it seemed like I was getting walked a little...
15 47 = 3.13
15 45 = 3.00
16 47 = 2.94
16 45 = 2.81
P.S. I understand each bike will be different, but just curious...
i have found that for me, its less about gearing and more about carrying enough speed through the corner and actually getting on the gas sooner and more aggressively. I have done the gearing change, but never saw much improvement. You are only talking 500-1000 RPM difference for some of the ratios.
I am -1 front/+2 rear for reference though ... i forget where that puts me for a ratio, but it works out well, but I still need to be on the throttle harder

Most guys with the 03 GSXR were running 15/49. I've even seen a few 15/50 setups. You definately don't want anything less than 15/47 for loudon.
i never got the wheel off the ground until this year going over 5 .. even then it wasn't every time. It got light (7 to 8 for sure), but finally started to get the front wheel off the ground over 5 (now just trying to hang over the front to keep it down). Didn't change gearing because it was all in my drive up 4 and being on the gas hard.
I'm not trying to say don't change gearing, because yeah, stock gearing is not a good solution for loudon, but don't expect the change to be as drastic as you think it might be (like I thought) ... its still all about being able to put the power down as fast as possible.
again, just commenting from my experience last year

Most inline 4's will run 1 tooth smaller in the front and 2 teeth bigger in the back. Your stock gearing was 16/45. Run a 15/46 or 47 and make it work. DO NOT GEAR IT SHORTER!!!!!! You will get most if not all of 5th at the 4 board going into T1. If not, then I'll show you how......
again, peter proves my point that I still suck and its less about having the right gearing and getting on the damn gas (i..e "don't be a pussy" - peter kates)

If I remember correctly, I seem to recall PK talking to Jamie maybe at a track day last year, and it was something along the lines of "on corner exit, whack the throttle open till the rear starts to slide out, THEN back off."![]()
I know a little about everything, and alot about nothing.
yeah, i think the next weekend I was like "uh .. pete my bike highsided me twice ... i don't think i'm doing something right"
hahahah
but in all seriousness, one of the best pieces of advice I got from PK was how you have to make sure you have your turning done before you wack the throttle, because if you increase throttle while increasing lean angle you end up with less traction. This really helped me out, and made me setup for corners better along with understanding the physics of what goes on and one of the reason I was crashing more than I wanted to in races.
I have not crashed yet (knock on wood) after that discussion. If you have the bike already turned and you get on the throttle good enough to brake rear traction it will just modulate back and forth (if you hold steady on the gas) instead of kicking out. I have experienced this a couple times going up turn 4.

True The faster the rear is spinnng(rolling) the less the chance of highside IE the less the diffrence between the speeds.
Like a car can do a nasty burnout at 5MPH may not even chirp them at 40 MPH.
If I have a problem with my bikes power or performance I aways First look to myself and what I can do as the rider to fix this. I am the slowest part of the equation. providing my bike is operating properly. 99.9 % of the time its me thats holding it up

so you guys think in spite of nearly everyone running a higher gear ratio, I should stfu and run stock gears?
like i said in my other thread, I have pleanty to learn and improve on, but that gearing just isn't getting me out of the turns like i'm used to on my liter bike.
No Not saying that You already got this stuff, Use it. My bike Came geared for loudon. As long as you have good maintained racing suspension. I would not go nuts with mods......... yet. the best investment is not Mods but tracktime.

You should 100% gear your bike correctly for the track based on what the good guys are running (go see Mike's post).
Once it's geared right, then you can work on the Rider Problems.

I just changed my gearing now I'm running a 15/48 on a Honda 600RR.
This gearing I like better becasuse it allows me to be in 3rd and 4th through most of the track.
I'm going through turn 12 onto the straight now in 3rd gear and hitting 5th a lot sooner than before with a better drive into 1.
I ran all last year with a 15/45, I like the new gearing a lot more.
