I spent a few races corner working this past season and now I want to get out on the track. At least for a few track days at first and then possibly out for some novice racing.
Im not sure what to do about a bike though, im new to a lot of this.. especially the world of salvage bikes and so on.
Heres what im working with, Id like to spend about 2500 or so on a bike. AT least until I know its something im going to continue with. Im going to start with track days and maybe a penguin school and then see about racing from there.
I have two bike options in the garage for track days:
01 Triumph TT600 my daily ride
95 GSXR 750 beater that needs body work anyhow.
I can cut the body on the TT and put sliders on it.. then run the track days. I can run the GSXR 750 but I think it would need too much work to make it comfortable on the track, but I really dont care about the bike.. am thinking about cleaning it up and selling it.
I was thinking about an 00-01 SV 650 as a track / race bike But I also have a friend with a stock 01 Ducati SuperSport 750 that needs a fuel pump and plastics and has no paperwork (he says it as imported form Italy by someone in the military) that I can buy for $1500 and ship up.
What would you suggest as the bike to use? I really dont want to go the EX 500 route, and Id like something that I can race and then sell if I need be for close to what I paid for it, to get something nicer when the time comes.
Thanks for any insight.

SV or Ducati.
GSXR = no and the TT is a pile
Boston --> San Diego
I agree completely
Now its a matter of the SV of the SS750 I found a duck forum where someone is asking a similar question and all the duck guys are saying go with the SV lol

Its going to also be partly a month thing. I can get that Ducati for $1500 put a $500 skin on it and find a used fuel pump and then whatever else needed to get it onto a track for under $2500 so its short money. I havent found an SV under $2500 and the ones close to that are beat up and is without race plastics. But I dont knwo which would handle better stock (so i dont have to sink a lot into suspesion at first) and which would be easier to maintain. I am leaning towards and SV but trying to make a fully educated decision. I figure the Duck would be easier to sell for what I had into it if I needed an out.
You can buy this hawk, From me

Then all you need to do is put gas in it. It handles better then a ducati and an SV.
And is fast enogh for chris to win the Amatuer national Championship as well As the loudon AM.

Dan's/ Chris's Hawk wouldn't be bad and the Hawks have a good following at Loudon. Plenty of people to help with questions amd maintenance.

I started on a Hawk but moved to a Ducati. The Ducati's are really not that hard to work on either and I bet you could definately get your money back on the Duc.
Sv's are good as well and they are a ton of them around. Oxx is a good resource for those.

I also have to agree I would go with the hawk or the SV. The hawk is probably a bonus because its already set up and has been taken care of.
The ducati will be stock so thats $$$ if you want to upgrade suspension etc.
Then you always have the ex500 you can get a good one set up for 1200-1400 hundred and spend the rest on track time.
rick d (#6) has a supersport sv650 that did 17s last year with brian kent on it and allowed me to get in the 25`s without an issue( im a novice it was my first season) so its completly set up and rick d says its the best frt end hes had on a supersport sv. it currently is painted pink haha but is completly ready to be brought up to the track and raced without any further work $2500
$2500?
who wants to buy an '00 ZX6R for 3 grand?

I like the Duc but that's just my preference. The SV is a good bike and can/does make more power than the Duc. However from what I've been told it will cost about the same to bring the suspension of the SV up to an equal Duc suspension.
I turned 1:27's on a completely bone stock SS750 so they aren't that bad. Besides I'm a snobby rich guy who rides a Duc for the status of it.![]()

Go with the Pink SV.... It is your color and it is already very nicely setup.
I agree completelyI need to do something with the gsxr that I have though.. I dont think I can have the purple accents on the gixxer and the pink SV sitting next to each other, not only will they clash but people might wonder
lol Thanks again everyone for the help.
Thanks again everyone. I went with an SV650 which is really what I had wanted for a while. I think it will be a great choice, now I just need to learn how to ride it and ride the track.
I will post up some pics as soon as I pick it up... well and get it repainted.. right now it looks a little bit![]()
Just How many people rode that thing?
The pink isn't all that bad...![]()

This would be a perfect time for a "your momma joke" but I will leave that for someone elseI think I heard 3 different names that have been on it, but the bike looked solid so much like relationships you kinda gotta let the past be the past lol
I cant wait to get on the track though.
i agree with that statement it was my bike and even i got sloppy seconds some weekends haha
