Re: Rock Page gets reamed for "Ruining the Show" in Ohio
how about rear cameras..............kidding.
I wish we used the blue flag, when we had the triple chicane setup, entering it i was shown a tire but i had the inside line so i held my ground and continued thru, figuring it was a fellow AM. After going thru and entering 3 i was passed by narbone (not even sure if it was his tire)....not that i could have really gotten out of the way with that setup but i would have made more of an effort to move aside. He was on his own so i didnt effect any position etc...just saying.
I watched it earlier today and it did seem the JRP got on the gas once the leaders caught him.

Re: Rock Page gets reamed for "Ruining the Show" in Ohio
I always thought "hold my line" just means be predictable... When I am being passed by leaders I try to leave the racing line more open. "allowing them to pass" I get the hell out of their way! If someone I am racing passes me too :dunno: Oh well.

Re: Rock Page gets reamed for "Ruining the Show" in Ohio
The most literal transaltion of the rule I can see is to hold your line, whether it be the racing line or anything else.
If there is an unwritten rule about leaving the door open for any laping riders to blow past then then it should be written that way and no offical should give him a penalty for that SINCE IT'S NOT!
One way or the other the officals are going to look like dicks; it can either be on paper if the blue flag rule says to move the fuck over and leave a line open or when they try and give someone a penalty for not following an unwritten rule.
The way the situation is, it's a riders choice to understand that they might not be the focus of the action so maybe move over for those in the spotlight OR race their own race. Rock said it well when he said he may have been racing some one too and why move over and risk anyone he's racing with to skoot by as well. Complete bullshit to say someone doesn't matter because they are not "it" because they are not finishing in the front of the pack.
A lot of races come down how the leaders can navagate traffic, makes things interesting. If you can't get past a rider who you're lapping after 20 some laps... maybe you don't deserve to be in the front when the guy you're battling made it by.:mope:
Don't shoot. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Rock Page gets reamed for "Ruining the Show" in Ohio
wonder if AL wouldve been canned if that video hadnt appeared.

Re: Rock Page gets reamed for "Ruining the Show" in Ohio
I am with Oxx on this one. Why not try and get a tow from the leaders?
You're being lapped, they should be able to fly by you one way or another. Just don't all of a sudden ride defensively and hinder the guy lapping you.

And that's the problem I have with it. The AL blasted him and now suspended him for not violating the rule. The rule states hold your line and the AL says dont' hold your line. Bullshit.
I guess the hold your hold line isn't that cut and dry.

Re: Rock Page gets reamed for "Ruining the Show" in Ohio
I dunno, after watching that clip I know if I was in his position and hayes got by with yates in tow... and I ended up between them... I'd probably run a corner wider than usual to let yates by. For no other reason than to avoid being "that guy".

Hold your line AND allow the leaders to pass.... You gotta remember that last part.

That I have a problem with as well... After seeing both the pit vid and the on-track vid, I think they're both in the wrong... Al for being a jackass and JRP, though a lesser offense, for not allowing Yates by.
You see backmarkers in the AMA riding 10 feet or more off line when the leaders come by and I think when you're given the blue flag and you're riding around all alone like JRP was, that's what you should do.... maybe not 10 feet, but at least a healthy margin, enough to not disrupt the rider's pace that's on the lead lap.... JRP didn't do that.

That's fine, but the rule states hold your line and the tech director says don't hold your line. Why is it so hard to see the disparity here?
So with this information we know that:
1. The rule states hold your line and allow the lapper to pass
2. JRP says he held his line
3. AL states you don’t hold your line you get out of the way
4. This means AL agrees that JRP was holding his line
He wasn’t blocking him, so he did allow him to pass. It doesn’t say aid him in passing you.
You guys are confusing sportsmanship with actually following the letter of the rule. Does this make JRP a dick maybe, but it doesn’t mean he violated the rule.

Re: Rock Page gets reamed for "Ruining the Show" in Ohio
How many times do I have to say it? Holding your line doesn't mean it has to be on the racing line.
Hold a line that gets you the eff outta the way.
Yeah, JRP held his line... and it was a line that held up Yates, THUS VIOLATING THE SECOND PART OF THE RULE. He did NOT allow him to pass.
-
Re: Rock Page gets reamed for "Ruining the Show" in Ohio
In the very first couple of seconds, you can look at the top of the screen and you'll see a rider way to the left (while all the others are in line).
If I recall, that was the rider right on JRP's butt in an earlier shot.
That guy pulled off line and slowed way down (as evidenced by how far JRP was ahead of him in this video)
My point being that JRP may not have known he was all alone. For all he knows, the first bike by him was the leader and the second bike was this other guy)
Not sure what the payouts are in this class, but maybe that could have been a money position?
Again, it's easy to judge from the sidelines... much tougher when you're on the bike and there's only a couple of laps left. Who knows, he may have been fighting with that guy for most of the race and just finally got by him?
Remember also that JRP is not just rolling around... it took them the whole race to lap him, so he's going at a fairly good pace. I don't know... seems like just a typical racing thing to me and he shouldn't have been penalized.

Funny how I can agree with both sides :P I didn't notice the bike off line earlier in the vid and I agree it's definitely tough, if not impossible to know exactly who's behind you during a race.
I don't really FAULT JRP for doing what he did IF that's what was going through his head.... but at the same time, he did technically break the rule, IMO :dunno:

Re: Rock Page gets reamed for "Ruining the Show" in Ohio
I think Al was out of line unless I'm misunderstanding the Tech Inspector's role. All of that aside, though, I think JRP should have backed off, but it's awfully easy to say from my desk. The way I read the Blue flag rule wording is "don't do anything dumb, but get the hell out of the way..." If the "about to be lapped" rider is supposed to continue racing, holding his current line without any regard for what's behind there'd be NO POINT to the blue flag. These guys are pros... and I can guarantee that the back half of the pack is perfectly comfortable with being passed, so the concept of the blue flag solely as a warning that a faster rider is approaching doesn't seem to have all that much necessity, but what the hell do I know, I'm a trackday guy. Things are much simpler there.

Re: Rock Page gets reamed for "Ruining the Show" in Ohio
What I don't like is that the rule says hold your line and nothing about the racing line or a 'tad' off the racing line. Shouldn't it be clarified?
Do you (people who race) slightly move off the racing line as a common courtesy?
Maybe its just me?

It all comes down to whether or not he was trying to race against hayes/yates as they came by, or if he thought he was racing with someone else. I definitely agree with Tony, but at the same time he probably should have realized that if Hayes got around him, there's likely someone coming with him.
Way to easy to judge via internet and youtube clips. I just like talking about racing though :teehee:
