    Running an unrestricted air filter

I read on another website that CCS does not allow an un-restricted air filter in SS, but I looked in the rule book and the only thing I could find was about not altering the air box.

I'm looking at picking up a BMC and was going to get the un-restricted (which is just missing the rubber boot at the bottom) race filter, but just wanted to check. I want to be eligible in the future for running both classes. Anyone with an 09 R6 have any experience with this, or maybe some of the powers-that-be maybe weigh in?

For ccs rules the "snorkel" needs to be present to be legal. You can use a bcm but have to use the snorkel from a stock filter. The snorkel is a plastic cone type of thing with a smaller opening and it is plastic riveted to the stock filter. Break off the plastic rivets and use it with the bmc. At normal CCS races they do post race tech after each super sport race and check the filter. LRRS doesn't normally do this but you never know!

Depending on the bike, the stock filter may actually work better anyways...

FWIW my R6 had a BMC fancy race filter in it. When Graves rebuilt it for me they put the stock OEM air filter back in. That's what they run on their racebikes (OEM).

Sam, I've never heard of a novice getting their results contested.

Unless someone thinks "hey that dude just looped his bike on the start. He MUST have an after market air filter on that bike. The stock air filters are too restrictive to flip the bike on a start. "
