School me on the registration process for a rookie weekend

Like the title says, looking for info on how crazy it is on your rookie weekend from people who have been there.

I'd like to make things as painless as possible.

Also, any advice on which classes I should run? I'm thinking about LWSS and LWF40.

Any others I should be considering?

SV650, stock front end. Suspension mods are fork internals and Ohlins shock.

At your age it never will be.

Your first day is BUSY. Having help (I.E. a racer who will show you the ropes) is a MUST for an easier day.

I wish I had a racer helping me on my first weekend.

With that said I would be happy to help.

    No

Be sure you are there for the morning meeting or they wont let you register at all. VERY IMPORTANT!

After the meeting you will go register & Tech your bike w/ your paper work.
Make sure your #'s are on your bike & your bike is race ready!!

Your race will be ready to begin shortly after the meeting, So be ready. I wasn't and was scrambling like crazy... I recommend you don't do this.

Now man up and run GTL! That is a great first race. After a 20 minute race the others all seem like a walk in the park.

My family will also be with me for the next round. Pit Crew!

Good info, Eric. Thanks. No, I still won't to GTL.

I might also see if there's room to pit in the ZTA garage. (CEO??) I could give you some money to offset the cost.

Mine really wasn't bad. I had signed up for penguin ahead of time and went up to do that friday. Got in line friday evening and registered for rookie race and whatever else. Like mentioned, just buddy up with someone in the know and they can make sure you don't forget anything

This sounds like a much better process than registering the day of.

Can you also register for the additional races you plan on doing the same weekend?

Ya, I am pretty sure that registration is open for a few hours on Friday night (last year it was)...something in ballpark of 5-7pm or so

Oh man your gonna beat this thing to death all week aren't you...

Yes they want you to register for ALL your races at once. You are able to register for races right up to them if you so desire to do a last minute race. you will be placed accordingly in the grid.

With you and Chippy starting, maybe I will take a ride up Saturday for the races to watch. Be fun to watch you guys.

Re: School me on the registration process for a rookie weekend

LWSS and LW40 would be good, I wont have to race you in either

If you just get up early and head to sign up for the school they will point you in the right direction for everything. They make it easy on you, just DO NOT miss the rookie race meeting or your SCREWED. You can register for your rookie race at the school and have to register for the rest on Saturday morning.

+1 for GTL lots of track time with faster guys makes you faster quick.

Re: School me on the registration process for a rookie weekend

I will have a spot open in G22N. I will be arriving Thursday. I can make sure you will be where you need to be and on time. If you do the rookie race and then Lightweight Gran Prix on Saturday and GTL on Sunday you also would be going out at the same time as me. That would give you lots of track time. If you felt like you could do more than you should in August after getting your feet wet.

We should have room. I'll be up Friday night I think.

Re: School me on the registration process for a rookie weekend

Its going to be busy but its not as bad as it was. You dont have to run all the way to the box office to register now. Just try to get everything done Friday including tech. It will make Saturday morning much easier. We should be up there Friday afternoon at some point. Depending on the weather I might be running practice. If you need any help you know where we are.

If I were you Id rethink running GTL. Those races are a ton of fun. The also forgive a bad launch because now you have time to catch up. GTU was my first win.

Re: School me on the registration process for a rookie weekend

I just did this whole Penguin School / Rookie race thing at the end of May.

Feel free to shoot me any questions you may have. They guys @ Penguin do a good job of trying to explain everything to you, but there is always something that comes up unexpected, or that might not make sense to you since it's your first time.

I will point out that if you are doing the rookie race and getting your license, you will be able to register for any races online @ my.nhms.com after about 9pm on Friday night (takes a little while for them to get you in the system). Obviously you would need to be somewhere with access to the interwebs...

Don't drag me into this. I don't need chuck's nervousness rubbing off. I have enough of my own, I'm so excited I could pee my pants, I just hope my new scoot doesn't go boom. At least I have weds to shake it down.
