bodywork comes in today!
i know i have no idea what racing is like (other than the mock race at VIR), but I know all I can think about is this first race weekend.
I'm so freakin' excited!

Ugh. Training and I have never gotten along. I loath gyms and.. running (major boring shit). I've always just 'been in shape' from the amount of riding (bicycle dirtjumping and stuff) I've done. Well in the last 3 years that's tapered off a bit, I've gained 15 lbs, and get winded walking up the stairs! ARGH.
Been going to gym a bit and joined a indoor soccer team recently. Going motocross riding with Jeff on Thursday thou... if it's a good track.. I might be tempted to get a MX bike (again) and do that once a week. Best full body training in the world, MX!
ps: Paul j00 so crazy.
Boston --> San Diego
alex, we got some dirt toys and some fun places to ride that aren't far from us. DO IT! It's hell on the knees though.
Unfortunately my semester ends a couple days before the first race, so I get no time for any training. I found at VIR I can ride the balls of my bike, i just have trouble straightening my legs to hold it up on the grid, and sometimes trouble climbing off it. Who wants to bet the majority of my 'crashes' are in front of the canopy tring to pull out/ back in.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
i was amazing at how good I felt after the 3 days at VIR
normally after one day of track i can't walk
I think my serving job at applebees that I have been doing since september kept me in pretty good shape ... granted I could be doing alot more, but its better than sitting around

I'm trying to eat better and get more exercise. I even quit smoking and am currently an intolerable prick.![]()
There have been numerous threads about working out...
Anyone notice Kevin Schwantz dropping the "400 miles of bicycling a week" line about Ben Spies in Cycleworld this month?
I knew these guys were bicycling a lot but not that much... they could jump right into amateur bicycling races when they aren't on their motorcycles with that kind of mileage.![]()
You dropped 15lbs from where? What are you going to do hide behind your slicks?Originally posted by Paul_E_D
Everybody getting ready?!
I've stopped going to the gym in favor of running. I'm pulling the bicycle out this week too. Strength training is over. Aerobics and leg endurance is the ticket. I've lost 15 pounds as well! I cut Dunkin Donuts drinks from my diet. ;-)

One thing you have to remember this is club racing we are not getting paid to race like the Pros do. At most of our levels of ridding you could train your ass off and still not go any faster.
Have fun and enjoy yourself. You will get more out that then trying to diet and train yourself to death.
Example- Last year I trained my ass off all winter and was doing high 15's for the 1st 1/2 the year. I stopped training so much gained about 8-10 pounds (Doing beer and weed with Jewtard) and was doing low 14's at the end of the year.
Musta been the weed! It worked for Gobert.
I don't go over the top, but I'm sure that I ride better when I'm fit. The 125 is an extremely physical bike due to it's riding position. It is actually hard to just continue to shift the thing after a few laps.
If I were riding a fatboy bike, I don't think I'd worry about it so much![]()
Not only could some of these guys jump into amatuer bike racing, they could hang with slower pros. I read recently that Ben bostrom cometed in an ironman triathalon this winter with a broken vertabrae. He couldn't do the run because of his injury, and he pulled out after the biking. Fastest solo entrant to that point.
so body work came ... the lower i got is one of the mismakes ... its too wide
they are sending me a new one, but won't be here until next week .... oy

True, true.... But being healthy can not only help prepare you for GT races and those super hot days, but something I learned from people that I know that are in Sports Medicine is that it also helps minimize injury and recovery time. A healthy, fit person will usually sustain less injury & recover faster than one that's in poor physical shape. It's not always a huge difference, but it can be noticable.Originally posted by Kip

Either way, i'd rather be in pretty decent shape for race season than not. I don't wanna be gasping for air comin outta 12, preying that I missed the white flag & the race is over when they're just signaling the 1/2 way point. (not that that would ever happen to me)

I think training should be the least important aspect for the *new* resident racers of NESR.
You guys should be focused on:
1) Getting you and your bike to the track on your own! Nobody wants to transport your bike and it will get old after exactly the 1st race w/e.
2) Having someplace to sleep. Having a shitty tent and a shitty sleeping bag might cut it but I doubt you will be well rested. Don't forget it gets cold the 1st w/e of the year.
3) Make sure you have enuff beer and weed. Kip is a mooch and you will quickly run out if you *only brought your personal stash*.![]()

Just so eveyone knows I only do beer. The "beer and weed" thing is a inside joke so if come to me looking for some weed you will be out of luck.
Luckily i am able to transport my own bike (barely)...but with all the expences of starting up as a newbie friends who will help transport bikes will have to bring alot less beer & weed...and that doesn't get oldI think training should be the least important aspect for the *new* resident racers of NESR.

Me and Nazo trained the hell out of our livers over the winter.

Unless you're a girl, whereas you can show up late, have someone else bring your unprepped bike and we'll stay up drinking captain and pepsi all night getting it minted out, then you can dive into my tent and sleep off your buzz there. Just watch out for crashing in the morn.Originally posted by bentbryan

I keep in "reasonable" shape. What I've had trouble with is staying hydrated and as stress-free as possible, both of which wear me out.
You novices may discover that you come in from a practice or race session quite winded. This will pass, not necessarily with conditioning, but with comfort and efficiency that comes from experience. I can now end a race with my heart rate below 100, whereas my first races were way above that.
