    Gino on a Motard?

Well, I am kind of breaking out of my shell and starting to try different things. I am not a fan for taking others bikes out onto the track. Some of my stupid reasons: The thought of crashing someone's bike; What if something happens when I'm on the bike; It's not my bike......
Well last event Grahm twisted my arm to take his Duc out. OOOhhhh the power I don't have. Now I know why those Duc 750 Air cooled worked up to 800 walk away from me in the straights.

Well that last TTD KB, Joel, Brian offered up their motards. Hesitation arose and thinking about it: I've never been on a Motard. Have I mentioned I have never been on a dirt bike in my 34 years. Yea I don't know about this one. KB offered it again and I said what the hell, I'll take it out in the Red group. Nice and slow so I can get a feel for how this things works. I head out and immediately find myself in a group of 10 or so Red people. Cool nice and slow to figure out what kind of power delivery there is and OMFG I feel like I am sitting in a Mack truck. This thing is so fricking tall. Definitely weird when you can see the top of the person's helmet that is in front of you. It also feels like my feet are on floor boards. That is definately weird. "How can you roll the ball of your foot around the pegs?" 3 laps in with this group and I think it is time to pit in and look for some open track.
I come in and sit for about 30s and there is a gap from T12 to t2. "Lets see what this will do with little speed." I begin to come up 3 pretty far back on the tail and start to notice the front end is shuttering. Have I mentioned I have never been on a dirt bike. OK I guess this is where you are not supposed to be. So I move up to about the middle of the seat. This feels better and the shuttering goes away. I have some fun now. Now I see why these things can be put anywhere on the track as I start chuckling to myself. I'm cruising around the track 4th 5th gear and I probably need a couple of more gears to get down the straightaway. Later on KB mentioned that he was laughing his ass off as he could see me trying to find additional gears down the straight. One of the times I came around T2 and noticed a slight hesitation and then it was back to power. "Self; I wonder if he forgot to filler her up?" I back it off figuring I am running out of gas and can limp around to pit in. I come down 6 and it does it a couple of more times. O.K. It is definitely gas with the decline it is definitely gas. 10 time to pit in. I hit 11 cone clutch in and the engine stops. Yup Gas. I roll into the garage chuckling and let them know I had a blast. Unfortunately it got shorten by running out of gas. KB, I forgot to show you where the reserve was. Cap off and shake the bike and there is a slight splash. I get off the bike and Brian (puppet) asks if I wanted to take hs out. O.K! KB wheels it over to his stand, puts it up to add gas in and get ready for the Blue session and mentions the he will show me the race line. COOL. Jay, "Hey KB is this drop of oil coming from your bike?" We take a look at it and there is a trickle of oil coming from somewhere on top of the head. KB. Ahhh it's just the breather leaking.

Brian and I ended up heading out at the same time. I end up dragging knee by the 4th lap. "Holly crap. I did not expect this. Something this tall and I and dragging knee." I am cruising around waiting for KB to come flying by me but I never saw him.?????? I notice Bob in T3 waveing me onI had my own personal trackside manager in T3 showing me that I was gaining on something to keep it up. Once I got close enough Bob Perkins was waving me on and then I realized that he was telling me to catch up to my own bike. I see Brian just past 4 and figure that I will probably catch up to him on the straightaway. Well I guess I was going a bit faster than I thought and I ended up passing my own bike on the outside of T9. NOW I know why all you Motards get so cocky. The next time around Bob is jumping up and waving his fists in the air like I just won Daytona. I was not doing any thing of the sort just having fun.

I get back into the garage and I have the giggles, chuckles, and laughing with a big ass grin on my face. What a blast and I was not even remotely tired. KB is there and I mention that I did not see him. I was sure that he would crank right past me. He mentioned that he could not turn it over " yea You my motor." STFU. How did that happen? I was only using the 2 upper gears and there is no way I could not have been pushing it any faster than what KB would have done. I feel bad now. 1 Motard ride and I blow it up. That is why I am hesitant to take someone's ride. Things can happen. Jay mentioned that "it was nothing that you did". They seem to think that ti is someting else. I hope so, I still feel bad. But I had and awesome time. Thanks Guys,or the opportunity I don't think I've had that much fun on the track. It's got me thinking. about the dark side.

Joel has even offered to race his Husky for the last race. If it's available MAYBE POSSIBLY

KB if you need a hand with anything let me know.

looks like we are going to lose another one to the darkside...lol. this is why i always decline the use of joel's motard. i'm afraid i might like it....though don't tell him that.

Say it isn't so... More motards in the 1a pit?

Exhibit A of why I refuse to ride on anything except my own bike, track or street, I know Id like it better than what I have and then Id have to get one.

    Gino on a Motard?

I bought Jays bike a little while ago and he was talking about motards which got me to thinking and eventually to buy one. This track day was the first I got to test it, and it suffices to say I had more fun on it than the 600. I grew up on dirty bikes, so it was more at home for me. I was planning to start racing the 600 next year, but damnit that tard is so much fun I don't know what to do! Might have to keep the 6 for trackdays only. Thanks Jay, you sell me a bike then get me hooked on something else! lol

    HAHA!

If i could afford it I would have had both. I just can't afford to race the 600 with school right now. I found a lot of advantages to switching from one type of bike to another. You can learn many different techniques on different types of bikes.

Yeah like not sticking your foot on the edge of the peg.

Since its such a new thought I'm still not sure, but I may concentrate more on the tard since it felt more natural and fun to me and is cheaper. Maybe do 1 race/weekend on the 600 just to keep things a little exciting. I don't know yet, Ill have to get people opinions over the winter and figure it out. Anyway it happens, track + bike = fun

    Gino on a Motard?

When I first started doing track days, I seriously thought that motards were for people who had been riding dirt bikes their whole lives and just couldn't handle the transition to a sportbike.

When I was at VIR 3 years ago, R7 spent a bunch of time working on my R1 for me and getting it to run right. He was a real lifesaver, so I told him to go ahead and take the bike out for a few laps. He in turn offered me his YZ450 motard. I wasn't the least bit interested, but I wanted to be polite, so I took it out. It was very clumsy at first, I did a retarded wheelie leaving the pits, and nearly endo-ed into turn 1, but within 2 laps I was having more fun than had all week on my R1. I sold the R1 and bought a (crappy) DRZ motard.

Motards are a real blast to ride, and they are quite addictive. I can hardly stand to ride a sportbike anymore.

Gino no need to feel bad. I knew full well what could have happened and told you to take it. Shit happens no hard feelings. I PROMISE YOU. It would have happened no matter who was riding it.

It's only and engine and it can be repaired. I have the engine out of the bike, the head off, and the connecting rod bearing let go.

So I think it's time for a Falicon stroker kit. Whatdya think the 500 or the 600 kit?

    Gino on a Motard?

    go BIG KB

i told ya Gino! i took Jays motard out and at first it shiggled around and i was like "fuck this thing". then tires came in and it was all smiles. its so weird to just forget all your braking markers. i came into T1 and watched the boards fly by...4....3....2....1....BRAKE...pound a gear..throw it in...WHOO HOO! i came in laughing. i saw Gino im the media center and was telling him "you gotta try it... its so much fun. and the ground clearance is awesome. i was able to run T11 right against the curb on the INSIDE of the bumps and not worry about the peg hitting the curb, same with the entry for T12.

then Joel tells me that i gotta try his. im hesitant as i know he just rebuilt it so i say no for one session and then he tells me again for the next one. "sure, ill take it out". let me remind you that although im a big guy at 6-2 220+lbs.... Joel is slightly larger than i....so i jump on his bike and the suspension doesnt move. its almost like riding a rigid bike. "its a little stiff but youll like it...oh! and its a 6 speed" says Joel "sweeeet".
i pull out onto hot pit. "lets see what shes got" whack it in 1st and it comes up and down so fast that im not sure that it even happened. "lets try 2nd" same thing. "OK...3rd" much better controlled hooliganism. i get to the the end of hot pit and stop next a guy on another Husky and laugh and say "this things fast!" i go out and let the tires warm up for a couple laps. then i start twisting the tube a little more. 6th down the straight, brake at the -1 board, down to 5th carry it into T3, brake at the tire wall, down to 4th, go up the the hill...5th...6th...shakes her head at me as we go over the hill as if to say "no, you shouldnt do that", down into 5th for the bowl carry that into T11 down to 4th and back onto the straight. this is the procedure for the next several laps. then i go i into the bowl and the bike has different plans. i twist the tube and this wretched clanking noise happens and the bike has lost all ability to move itself forward. i pull over and wait for the end of the session to roll it in. i get it into the garage and push the magic button for Joel and the starter spins.... the crank spins... but thats about it i think. the piston i believe has lost all contact with the crank. i dont know if it lost its phone #, owes it $$ or what but they are no longer friends like they used to be.
im REEEALLY sorry Joel. i know that you say it would have happened anyway no matter who was riding it, i just know that you just got it back together.
again im sorry, i know it can built better as you were talking "Carrillo Rod". i could probably make a trip down to plaistow to help ya on a Sunday....just not this Sunday

thanks for letting me take it out. i cant tell if it faster than Jays but it was definitely a blast. hmmmm...what would i have to sell to get a motard?

unfortunately its the motor issues that have me leery about buying one
