So what happened to cause the fire?
Hey that's me in the "W" Woodcraft shirt and Saxman next to me. wooord.
Boston --> San Diego
Not positive what exactly caused the fire but it was a newer style R6 and i have read that the tanks hang out to the sides enough that in a lowside they can scrape through the tank and have been know to start fires. It may have been something else but seeing as it is the same type of bike i am just making assumptions.
I was watching the race from 1a/2 and saw the red flag. Turned around and was amazed at the flames. I was next some guy screaming and yelling like it was this great thing (maybe it was one of you). If it was one of you, I'm sorry to say I really kind of just wanted to push him off the back of the grandstands.Quote:

I was mostly up at the other end of the pits. I came down to try and get some shots of my friend's race when I recognized silverdragon and his bike. Then saw all of you on the trailer and put it all together. I'm like, special er something.Hey that's me in the "W" Woodcraft shirt and Saxman next to me. wooord.![]()
As soon as that race was done, I had to shoot home right away. Got to meet a few of you on the way out though. Next time, I'll come down and bother you more.![]()
Yes, the R6's are apparently have a new EXTREME tip over switch. When you tip it over past a certain point, it EXPLODES!
Josh Herrin blew his R6 up in the superstock race at FOntana this weekend as well.
Nothing like losing you 10K racebike in a simple lowside!
Edit, I think I know the source of the flames!

Scary to think a simple lowside can cause a bike to explode. Sounds like Yamaha has to rethikn their tank design a little bit for next year. I wish I could have made it up there this weekend but my other job sucks for hours. Pretty much think of any hour you would like off and those are the ones I work. Hopefully I can make it up to a weekend this year looks like most had a lot of fun.

Bud Durgin (Bud Durgin PhotoArtGraphy) was up there, but his photos arent posted yet. Also, Rick Lee got some pics, too. He'll post them up here when they're ready as well.

At the end of the season last year, I seem to remember 500 pics a day or something along those lines. My guess is since the first weekend seems to be the bad turn-out weekend, maybe the photographer just wasnt feelin it either. what did the site say, 60 total?
