I've been checking LRRS and other used bike websites looking at used bikes. I'm wondering what should one look for when searching thru EX500s? One with no track or race experiance.
-Should i go stock, or look for mods?
-What type of mods are most important?
-Suspension? (i've seen alot of Penske equiped bikes)
-Wheels? (17 inch?)
-what year? and why?
thanx
94+ comes with the 17" wheels already. if you get a pre94 then you will be upgrading things left and right unless you get a stupid good deal on the bike, i would stay 94+

there's an ex500 racebike on craiglist for 1500.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
That's Dan and Lorna Murphey's EX on craigslist. I'm surprised nobody has snatched that up by now. Dan takes excellent care of his bikes. It was an ex-Penguin bike.
could i get a race modded ex500, put all the street need stuff back on it and ride it on the street? then when i feel ready i can go on the track?
If not, how much would it cost to get an ex500 ready for the track? they need new suspenison right? thats not cheap from what i understand.

Marcus, Dan's bike is a good one... and BJ Worsham (an expert racer at NHIS) posted up a couple other leads on the Cheap Bastid forum
You'd wanna race Production Twins if you're gonna go w/ an EX... and they're pretty stock. Only aftermarket stuff you can really use are tires & a rear shock... front suspension is basically internal mods only (springs, emulators etc). You CAN update it, so if you find an old one (pre 94) w/ the 16" rims you can do what Daviid's doing & collect the appropriate parts from EX's that are equiped w/ 17's, but it'll cost ya more money unless you find the bike SUPER cheap (like Daviid did)

i ment the same page of thought but yeah. lol
my school blocks myspace too. Try downloading something called HTTP-Tunnel. im trying to configure it for my school.
I could easily change my proxy settings & access the page, but that's absolute grounds for unquestionable termination if they find out.... and they would, everything's monitored.
And yes... I know we were on the same page of though, I'm just bein a pain in the ass![]()

what are the most popular companies for ex500 race mods? its hard to find them on google. sharkskinz and hotbodies dont have race plastics for them. and where would one get these stock fork modifications for the ex500?
airtech for bodywork, Peter Kates for suspension mods
Ohlins & Penske both make shocks for the EX that you can purchase through Peter or classifieds, ebay etc. There's a couple companies that make springs & emulators, Racetech comes to mind first, but i'm sure there's others that I can't think of at the moment.
You can also upgrade to race rotors, pads & braided brake lines.
I'm still kinda an EX newb but BJ & a couple other EX names are on the Cheap Bastid Forum... i'm tryin to get that site a little more active. Once it gets goin hopfully it'll become a good resource for EX's and other cheap race bikesThe only other EX specific site out there is www.ex500riders.com which is a good resource if you're a streetrider but not the best if you're a racer.
