    Time for more cardio?

I picked up a new Rev' It suit for this season. Double and triple checked all my measurements prior to ordering. It came in and fits well in some places (biceps, chest, waist, overall height, a$$) and not so well in others (tight in the calves, forearms and thighs). I guess what I'm wondering, is will this suit stretch the more I wear it or is it time to bump from 15 to 25 miles three times a week on the road bike to see if I can slim my FA down? I could certainly stand to lose a couple but I'm also curious how much this suit will stretch...

    Thanks,
    Fitz

If you ride more on the road bike, chances are you will gain more muscle mass in your thighs, which is one of the tight areas according to you.

Possibly. Low resistance high pedal rpm (90-95 typically). Usually my lungs give out long before the legs feel fatigued. Other cardio options?

    Re: Time for more cardio?

Well is it UNCOMFORTABLY tight? You want it snug in most places that are prone to impact, like the forearms, knees & hips, so it's less likely to twist around on you, giving you friction burns moving the padding from where it's needed most.

With that said, off-the-rack suits aren't made to fit everyone & each manufacturer uses slightly different dimensions. Maybe the Rev-it is just too tight for you in those spots. You can either try a different suit or see if the leather will break-in a little and stretch out (which it usually does)

That's good to know. For some reason I pictured loose but not baggy as ideal.

Nothing is in danger of ripping... it doesn't feel "too" snug... but then again I can't zip my boots closed. Stupid road biking calves. The boots fit perfect... I just can't zip them once I get near my calves.

Thank god there's no webcam on this computer.

best advice I got was to get them wet in whatever areas they are too tight in. Mine was too tight in the calves when I first got it as well, so I sprayed them with warm water and wore them for a good 5 hours til they dried. It stretched out just enough to still fit snugly but not be uncomfortable.

My wife and daughter love you. They already get a case of the giggles every time I walk across the room. When I tell them I'll be in this for the next 5 hours I'm sure they'll cry from laughing so hard. Regardless... I'm going to get some warm water and I'll give it a shot.

    Thanks!

My suit is like a sausage casing. Except for the torso, which is a little too tight, my suit is perfectly form fitting, almost as if custom made.

Hmm. Boots are zipped. Calves are soaking. Sausage casing sounds like a pretty accurate description.

In my mind, it should literally be like a second skin. Tight, but not restrictive.

    Re: Time for more cardio?

rob has the same problem with his calves and thighs in his suit. he has worn it a bunch of times and it is beginning to stretch out in those areas. even my wimpy little calves are tight in my suit, but they are not uncomfortable, so i just assumed that was right...

No chance in hell... the ONLY view you'll be getting is when I... er...well.. when I follow you into 1 during practice thinking "there's no way in hell either of us are going to make it through the corner at this speed" which is about when you removed your left hand from the handlebars and looked over your shoulder...just like last year. Very sobering.

Cardio it is. 3.5 miles on the treadmill during lunch today.

Thanks to all for the help.

    Heheheheheh

Trust me Fitz, I remember *all* too well when I took the Penguin School and the Instructors did the very same thing to me. I know the feeling and it's all part of passing the fun along Makes for a great story around the water cooler at work.

Look forward to seeing you out there again this season. Come up for some Friday practices and find me and we'll do more of the same. End of the year you'll be the one going 1-handed into T1

wear it while riding your bike!!!

The sweat and movement will break it in. Also don't be nice to it. Throw it on the ground, walk on it, drive over it, use it as your rug in the entryway of your house. Abuse it and wear it it'll break right in.

takes a lot to break in good leather. the water will help, but you have to wear it until it dries.
