I bought a 97 gsxr-600 track bike from a member here at the end of last season and it came with some Pirelli DOT race tires (I cant remember exact type right now). The tires are pretty worn on the edges but are still showing decent tread down the middle of the tire. I just moved up to yellow last year (TTD) so i am a slow yellow group rider. Is there a way to know if these tires are still good for my trackdays this year. I don't want to have to be suprised at a track day if they dont pass tech. Any help would be appreciated.![]()

"Hey Mr. Owl, How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?"
"Well, let's find out"
Let me borrow the tires and I'll let you know how long they last me.
I was actually wondering the same thing. I know on the race car I'll get one, maybe two track days at speed on a set of race rubber before they're so heat cycled that my times will start to drop and things get greasy. Are race tires for bikes similar hence the 50% tread depth?
