    Tuning a race bike

So I've had to *ahem* push my racebike home once already when Goffstown PD was nice enough to not haul the bike and I off to impound. If I was to install a set of pods in place of the air box, I'd like to do some basic tuning runs to check the effects on jetting etc... what's the easiest way to go about doing this?

I'd like to have it dialed in before this coming Friday as I may do advanced penguin school.

    Thanks,
    Fitz

Unless you can find a parking lot or a dyno, no real way to jet a motor without some way to load the engine.

    Gauges for carb sync?

TLRMan would be good at answering this question.

What bike with what mods? There should be plenty of info on the net to get you in the ballpark without riding on the street.

Then again a dyno would be ideal but a deserted parking lot can work in a pinch.

totally agree... talk to someone that races your bike with your mods to get a starting point. then either find a big parking lot. spend $$ on a dyno. or use practice sessions...

assuming the bike is running fine now why make the change? why not work on your lines? i doubt you're running in the teens yet so there's prob a fair amount to be gained in your riding vs. the minimal HP gain from a change to pods.

DAS Performance on Bridge Street in Dracut has a dyno as well and Eric Paquette ( fellow racer at Loudon ) is pretty good at tuning stuff. Maybe he would have some time available.

    Re: Tuning a race bike

All great suggestions. Truth be told the bike would be at Souhegan already but Scott's on his Honeymoon.

I agree with working on my lines verses adding power to the bike, but I think she may be running a wee bit lean anyways and would like to check on that before I find out the hard way. I wouldn't mind getting rid of the airbox in the process.

Bike is a 1st gen SV650. Desnorkeled stock motor with a full m4 exhaust. I'll do some research in regards to jetting and empty parking lots.

    Thanks!

Sent you a long winded email. I need to order some parts as well as get intimate with your dyno.
