You can sleeve down an SV to a 500 to run in ulsb.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

Hmm this is interesting...
Are you talking about putting an SV650 motor into an SV400 frame? Clearly it wouldn't be SS legal but is that still allowable for SB? Maybe someone with faster internet than me can look up the technical part of that in the rule book. lol And even if you bored out the 400 to 2mm or 3mm over it only add around 20cc's at most? Then again it'd still be SV400.. Not sure still how you'd get an SV650 into ULSS/SB with out like someone else said someone not noticing?
Has anyone run a "1998" SV400 in either ULSS or ULSB before and would it even be competitive enough in the UL class to even bother? I'd assume if nearly all the components were compatible with the 650 then it could have at least some potential.
When the hell did they ever make an SV400? Never even heard of it.

It wasn't brought over here.
What do the rules say about a motorcycle that was produced outside the US?
For Superbike, there is no restriction that it had to be produced in / for the US market.
My model FZR was only produced for Japan, but was sold as a street bike and thus can be run in SB. You're likely thinking SS which requires the machine have been sold for street use in North America.Originally Posted by 2014 LRRS Rulebook
Interesting.
Can you run a custom/bastard build?
Examples:
1) your own frame
2) let's say gsxr frame, Yamaha motor (any combination similar)
3) different class frame - lower class motor such as let's say SV1000 frame with SV650 motor
Don't have to answer any of these Josh I'm just curious.
1) Your own frame - Nope, gotta be from a production machine sold for street use somewhere in the world to be in SB. You CAN however fab your own frame if you want to run GP classes.
2) Yes, with the proviso that you don't mod the engine mounts or other key points on the frame as per the SB rules. Mod those points, you're stuck in GP again. One other gotcha, noted for example 3 applies here too.
3) The frame determines the class eligibility, and you can't downsize from there. If you start with an SV1000 frame, you've got a 4v per cylinder liquid twin based chassis, HWSB is the lowest class it can ever be eligible for. Hence why a 1998 SV400 frame is magic, it meets the rules for ULSB, hang any ULSB legal motor build (800cc SV?) you want in there AS LONG AS YOU DON'T MOD THE SPECIFIED FRAME POINTS to do it. Again, GP rules toss this right out the window, mod the frame, downsize, whatever, GP classing is based entirely on engine setup alone. This is why you're seeing de-stroked GSX-R 600s running LWGP in Florida now. Unfortunately as built they are two class bikes, LWGP and GTL and that's it.
Edit: Single Cylinder Blind Spot makes this all moot. Take a Panagale, lop a cylinder off and it's ULSB legal.![]()
I'd heard insanity was contagious, perhaps this is why your ideas are starting to make sense. I'm still gettin' whupped by stock SV's however, so perhaps I could use a box of Spanish hand-built riding skill...

If you can't modify the engine mounts on the frame can you modify the engine block to mount where the frame mounts are located? Or is there no modification allowed at all to prevent engines that were not meant for that frame to be used? I know blocks being cast it would be much more difficult to do any modification but not entirely impossible

SV400s are built for ulsb all the time by companies like spears and twf. Im not sure if they sleeve down or replace jugs. As I see it, its the same as running the gsxr450 3 cyl bikes people make out of gsxr600s.
I forget what the displacement limits are for liquid cooled twins made after 98 but I thought it was 500 since EXs are allowed.
if PT was still a class you could run a SV500 in that as well.

Outside of LRRS you don't need to sleeve down an SV650 to run ULSB. Inside of LRRS, sleeving down won't make it ULSB legal, you've got to start with a 98 SV400 frame.
Now sleeving down for WERA, that works, just like they allow the GSXR450s that CCS won't outside of LWGP.
ULSB allows liquid twins up to 650cc, pre 99 model year, non desmo you can go to 800cc. LRRS puts a cap on liquid twins in ULSB that they must be 98 or earlier. I'd say EX500s get snuck in under a like machine allowance even after 98.
A sleeved to SV500 wouldn't ever be legal for PTwins, an SV400 in stock trim wouldn't have been either because it wasn't sold in the US.
