short weekend

Well I was feeling really good this weekend and confident that I could do well.

I had been working on a lot of differnet things to improve my weaker areas. I felt like I made progress.

Race #4 -
Gridded 10th, got a great start and got to the outside and was able to get two into turn 1 and was in 7th for the first lap. Red flag as we came out of 2 for the 2nd time.

Restart, another good start, head get the the outside again, 710 gets around me and I settle in. All of a sudden, Carter (#15) got pinched in turn 1, hits the ditch and looses the front .... i have no where to go, I get collected by his bike. Head and shoulder slam into the ground and I go slidding into the grass. Bike flipped and oberated the controls on the right side, master cylinder, brakes lines, throttle, bodywork ... everything.

Went to local clinic to get the shoulder checked, just pretty beat up they say.

My weekend was quickly over which is very disappointing. I want to thank Neal and Carrie for coming up along with my parents. The support is just awesome!

Woke up this morning pretty stiff ... I want to ride very badly, but its in my body's best interest that I don't.

I'll tell you though, it eats at your soul watching your practices/races go off knowing you should be out there.

I don't know how one ever retires from this sport willingly.

there is a reason that guys don't show up to the track when they are not racing. it's almost physically painful wanting to be out there and not being able to for what ever reason.

Hey brutha, can't tell ya how bummed I was seeing your bike in the grass outside turn 1.... but I was super relieved to see ya walkin around (all be it holding your left arm a little different than your right.)

As always, it was great to see ya smilin afterwards, even if it meant the end of your weekend.

Don't wait too long to start the shoulder on rehab. stay away from sugar, processed foods, and red meats for the next couple of weeks. Your shoulder will love you for it.

The upside for all of this is that I did make progress in practice on Friday and Saturday morning. I was running really shagged tires (race weekend, and 2 TTDs on them). They were spinning up all over the place, so I focused on my braking alot, but also learning to control the spin.

The start and lap 1 of the race I was hanging comfortably with the top group and really felt like I could have gone the race distance with them for the first time.

I'll be ready to do battle for the last round for sure!

Shoulder just starting to feel a little better today ... a tad more movement out of it.

I did not see him hit the ditch. But I did see Jason's front end slide right out well past the apex. I'm not saying that he did not hit the ditch. Just that I did not notice him at that point.
