Oh wow, I thought I was the only geek doing this. You seem to be under the same presumptions I am, probably based off of a lot of recent rumors as well (Lorenzo, Bautista, Pasini, etc).
One thing I keep discussing with other race fans is the fate of Spies after this season. I honestly think he'll go another year in SBK, especially if Haga manages to win the title. But when he does go to GP (and he will go), I only see him going with a factory team, not a satellite one. In the case of next year, I could see FIAT putting him in the empty spot left by Lorenzo.
well, Spies can't go to Fiat straight from WSBK due to the new rookie rule (or the Spies rule as it's been dubbed). They have to have 9 races to get on a factory team. Now, what I could see Yamaha doing, contracting Spies for 2 years now, that way they have him on contract. if he takes the wsbk crown, they move him to Toselands seat on tech 3 for 2010. Chances are good rossi will retire at the end of next year, which in turn would open up a factory spot for ben (provided he does well on the tech 3). if he doesn't win wsbk this year, they keep him there next year.
i honestly think, even without the rookie rule in place, a factory ride right out of the get-go is a long shot for him. the current/recent sbk guys that moved to gp just haven't matched the results of the 250 guys that move up. as a team owner, thats something to look at.
just some thoughts.

another issue with the fiat rossi/spies situation, hypothetically speaking right now of course, spies could potentially find himself in the same shoes as lorenzo. "you'll be the next big thing kid, just go out there and beat valentino"
something i would have liked to have seen would have been a rossi/melandri combo for 2010, but alas it was never meant to be.

Dig up the proposed rules wherever they might be. I think that the rule actually states that a new rider cannot ride on a factory A-team in order to be eligible for the Rookie of the Year honors, not an outright ban.

I dunno, I know these guys have egos but I would welcome the idea of going to fiat yamaha and be on same team as Rossi if I were lorenzo or Spies even...I bet I would become a better/smarter racer being around his camp even if I place 2nd to him every race.

Nope, outright ban. Suzuki is the only exception given the fact they don't have a "B" team.
While that may be true for the first year or two, nobody is in that series to place second and your life span can be cut very short if all you are doing is learning. Take JT for example, he's even gone on record stating that he has access to all Yamaha data, including Rossi's. he hasn't been able to do anything with it and I'm guessing we'll see him back in WSBK next year. Granted some of them may accept the fact their chances of becoming world champ are slim, Lorenzo isn't in that boat and like you say, that is where the ego's come in.

ya thats true, lorenzo isn't in that mindset and I highly doubt spies would be as well at this point.

Following months of intense speculation it has been confirmed that Héctor Barberá will ride for the new Aspar team on Ducati machinery in the premier class in 2010

Are you laughing because its pink? Thats awesome because it makes me laugh too!
Spanish papers are saying Lorenzo made the Ducati deal official. Yamaha is making him make a decision by Indy so we should expect the official announcment soon. This moves Nicky out and rumors say that Rossi has already given his nod of approval to have Hayden as a teamate again.

Lorenzo would be dumb I think to jump to Ducati.
I think he's just leveraging Yamaha for the sweetest
deal he can get.
Wondering what will happen to DePuniet and Elias.
They both I think have some potential still in them.

Well, looks like it's confirmed that Lorenzo will stay at Yamaha. probably the best decision if he wants an honest shot at the title next year.

Sorry, I haven't posted my updated spreadsheet recently. I'm slacking I guess. Yeah, Capirex is staying with Suzuki and apparently theres a lot of good reason for it. They are moving up to 2 test riders which should help, additionaly in the last test apparently the Suzuki garage was wrapped up like a drum hiding their new bits and pieces. Supposed to be moving some funding from AMA and WSBK to their GP effort as well. Guess Ducati offered Loris his seat back a couple times as well.

hayden stays with the factory Ducati. Good to see an American staying in the series, but I wonder if they kept him because everyone else they have approached has turned them down (with the exception of Pedrosa, but he didn't seem to be dying to ride that bike).

So, it is being reported that edwards has resigned with Tech 3. Now the interesting fact is that Edwards "had" the Yamaha seat at Tech 3 and Toseland had the "Tech 3" seat (Yamaha owns one seat, the team owns the other). Now, Edwards is on the seat owned by the team leaving the Yamaha owned seat open. The rumors are flying fast and furious that it is being saved for Spies, thats right, Team Texas, provided Ben wins the WSBK title. Pramac Ducati has approached Ben about GP next year so Yamaha had to act quick and secure hinm for the next two, this explains the vague announcment of ben's seat for next year.
In other news, FP Corse should be a new bike on the grid. Rumored to make it's first appearance at Valencia this year.
