it's pretty sad really. "waaaaaa i caught the ball and my hand hurts, I can't practice"

    -vs-

"i just got launched off a bike worth hundreds of thousands of dollars *brush brush* get the back up bike warmed up, I'm headed out again"

The caption on the motivational poster of Hayden cranked over in a turn is right....there are men, there are men with balls and then there are motorcycle racers

Ha! Dan, We'll chat after your first big highside. It'll go something like this: Dan, What day is it?
    Day?, Who's Dan?
    Do you remember what happened?
    Was there a motorcycle?
    Where does it hurt?
My back, my shoulder, my hip, my hand, my foot, my head... (passesout)

That kind of a landing HURTS, no matter who you are or what you're wearing. Most people would be sitting out for months after that.

I got all those answers right after mine. I didnt quite go as high in the air as Toseland. I did manage to land on my shoulder and head. The corner worker seemed pretty shocked that did answer everything clearly. However my thumb does still hurt from time to time if I hit it wrong. Was racing the next day even though I was a few seconds of my pace

IMO, whats really impressive about these guys is not just their ability to get back on after a crash like that. its to get back on and not fall off their pace too much, even compete for podium spots on race day. they really have a fine tuned sense to figure out what they did wrong, accept it and never do it again.

Yeah, But Toseland fell 2.5 seconds off after this one... for the entire test.

It's possible to not get to banged up in a highside, just not all that common. Pavement is unbelievably hard when you fall out of the sky onto it. I'll never forget that feeling.

true. guess i should have pointed out my statement doesent happen 100% of the time and 2.5 is huge at their level. a 2.5 drop equals, "congratulations you just became lap traffic"

you know you had a good high side when you see a corner worker running twords you with eyes wide like saucers and a horrified look.

i don't understand. i have a highside about 1/8 as big as that one and i break shit. these guys dust themselfs off surprisingly often. maybe i should start training.

They get hurt too, but many times they don't publicize it. No doubt training and experience go a long way to reducing injury. more momentum forward is better. Slow highsides are really more dangerous.
