Get that thing seccurred. I've heard a number of stories of theft after dealer servicing....

It is locked with the largest lock i could find it cost $130 at Cycles and seems to be a chain (or braided wire) wrapped with metal plating wrapped with plastic/rubberized material.

    http://lockitt.com/onguardlocks/ongu...ed.htm#5024_25

that link also shows you the mark-up that Cycles128 has on them, I almost shit myself just now

It would be hard to get this lock off without making any noise.

Also for the 2011 I have a few theft solutions in place already.

What do you mean? As if the dealer may have something to do with the thefts?

    If it is you got

But seriously though, I guess they can do that for the impulse buy when the customer has no idea what the going rate is for the product.

Re: 600 mi service requires 8.5 mi test ride?

Yeah, I do all my own stuff but if I didn't I would def prefer someone take my bike for a ride to check it if I paid them to work on it. About 2 months ago a buddy of mine's good friend had a shop do some work on his bike.... they didn't test ride it (or apparently even look at it) because if they had they would have seen that when they put the rear wheel back on the pad ended up on the wrong side of the rotor.... so it was pad,pad,rotor,piston..... they had pushed the pistons down to give room to put it back together so it fit and spun, but when the guy went to brake it immediately twisted the piss out of the rear rotor, locked up and tossed him real nice.... lots of road-rash, totaled bike and scars later.... yeah, go 15 miles on my bike for all I care. Just don't mess it up haha.

my local dealer has a test ride loop that's just under 6 miles, it could be shorter, but the 6 mile loop is safer and all right turns

Scroll down to bottom of page, there is one with MSRP of $129.95 they are selling for $99. So you gave up $30, big deal, you got hosed worse on 600 mile service that consists of changing the oil and beating on your bike for 8.5 miles.

I had a good friend back in the day buy a brand new TLR from them. Went to get the 600 mile svc done. They called him later in the day and said the tech totaled his bike on the test drive. Granted, shit happens but still sucked. He had just thrown on some cf yosh cans.

Hopefully the dealer had to replace the bike.

I forget what exactly happened afterwards but I know he wasn't happy with the outcome. They definitely did not replace the bike though.

that the common internet non wisdom

600 mile service is a comprehensive inspection. usually uncommon problems, defects etc will rear their fugly face within the 1st 600 miles, 1st service requires competence to recognize irregular wear patterns before they become a problem

1st service by a competent mechanic takes 1-1½ hours if everything is done correctly, and most of the time it seems like a waste cause there are no problems

but I know theres a ton of peeps here that can do it in 10 minutes without making a mistake

I have come across this set up several times. Usually, it is done by the owner, or by "a friend", and usually (but not always) on dirt bikes. Every time I have seen it, I am amazed that the rider is usually completely oblivious to it.

nice, i've had my kids all summer so my only riding time is from Lynn to Waltham and back once a day to go to work

I will be riding tonight thru thursday night though, might try to make bike night tonight if I can find someone from the area here to ride with. I have no GPS and do not know the way.
