I know it is a carb needle but why is it tapered? Who makes em?

All carb needles are tapered.
Uh ok then how the hell did the other bikes ones get straight?
The taper wear off?

Now you have me second guessing. I have never seen an un-tapered needle.
Try 85-87 GSXR..... almost straight up and down.Originally posted by Degsy

FWIW,
Gino didn't seem to be too surprised with the straight ones. He thought the tapered ones were odd.

I fail to see how a straight needle can block flow properly and get even flow all the way around.
I thought they were all tapered too... just that some of the smaller ones looked almost straight?![]()

The taper lets the fuel meter in. More air more fuel.

Heres a condom. I figured since youre acting like a dick, you should dress like one too.
I figured that one out.The taper lets the fuel meter in. More air more fuel.
I know this is foreign to a lot of you guys/girls.
The question is:
Who would make a tapered needle like that?
It also allows 6 positions with the c clip I have only seen 5 positions. I know, I know it gives more adjustibility with 6.
DOC you may want to check with Horde... Let me know when you find out. I would like to give it a go. My mid is pretty flat and would like to try something different.

That is probably a Dynojet needle. The tapers on different bikes can vary greatly. The Dynojet needle in the kit for my 93 GSX1100G looks a lot like that. I'm just guessing that with all the interaction between cams, timing, airbox/intake resonances, exhaust wave action, etc, etc, that, that particular needle is for an engine that ramps up on fuel needs in the needle range, rather abruptly.

Oxx knows ALL about flow... mention "sandbagging" "cherrypicking" or "bumping to AM" to him & he gets really heavy periods![]()
