Where to buy used G1 SV650 motor?

Where would you buy a complete motorcycle engine? My gen 1 sv650 is in need.

I've considered:
1) ebay, which I'm not sure I trust, and
2) buying a used bike from Craigslist to cannibalize.

Interested to hear what NESR would do.

The story here is that my race bike developed an issue at Loudon today. Something started feeling odd one lap after driving out of the bowl. Then into T9 the engine braking felt stronger than normal. Then out of T10 the motor was weak, and making a new sound. I pitted in. Several trusted sources in the garage listened to this new sound, suggested that it was rod knock, and said that racing it would be a very risky move. I'd rather not blow a motor and oil the track (or worse), so the bike will be fixed before seeing the track again. There are only two weekends between now and next round, so the best option seems to be an engine swap for a good motor. I will also attempt to rebuild the current motor, though this is likely beyond my current ability, especially in this timeframe.

Best to get a used one and use that while you rebuild yours. It's a fairly simple motor to learn on.
If you would consider a gen 2 motor I know of one for sale.

Sorry to hear this Ryan. You were turning some good lap times too and then I see you didn’t start in any races later in the day. I don’t know of anyone with a spare 1gen motor either. I’m sure Someone will come through with one.

Thanks PeaPod. The motor issue came on very suddenly, and I pitted in immediately after (I've edited my original post to make this more clear). Actually, I think that I had slightly better drive than you out of the bowl on some laps. While I was chasing you, I sometimes found myself without a way around you, and had to ease off the gas through T7/T8. But that's just one section, and the race results show who was the better rider this weekend (hint: it was you).

I appreciate the suggestion of renting a motor or bike for the last round! Now to figure out who I need to go begging to...

Thanks Tas! I haven't ridden since the Classic, and I was just starting to really get back in my stride when the motor went. Frustrating, but at least I didn't have to deal with all the schedule changes today

Damn, I know someone that just let a good gen1 complete bike go for $500 a few days ago.

I'd look on Facebook marketplace and the FB SV650 groups as well as svrider.com. There's a '99 in Waterville for $1k right now on FB.

Thanks for the advice and kind offers everyone! There is an absurd amount of generosity in this community. Where else in the world do people loan out racebikes to near strangers?

Anyway, I just bought a used motor on ebay. Should be here next week, and I'll make the swap over the weekend. Wish me luck...
