    Calling Carburetor masters

Just got an 97' GSXR 1100 and the bike has been sitting for awhile.
It's running on three cylinders w/the fourth cutting in and out on high idle (choke on). I know the fuel needs to dumped and the Petcock screen cleaned.
What are the main areas to be concerned with and cleaned?
    Main jet and Pilot Jet?

If it has any Ethanaol gas in it, the pilots will need to be cleaned!

You'll also want to take a look at the boots from the front of the carbs to the intake. If they're dry rotted or cracked. Any ports machined into the bodies have to be cleaned as well. When you have the carbs off - do one at a time... Sometimes the inner carbs have different jets in them than the outer carbs.

Save yourself the trouble, pull the carb bank and do a complete teardown, soak in cleaner then blow compressed air into every chamber and orifice.

There could be blockages within the casting itself.

Seafoam is your friend as far as preventative measures go once you get them cleaned. That way you won't be beating your head against the wall with ethanol flavored Jell-o.

Not just compressed air, but aerosol carb cleaner, you can't see air, but you are assured when you can see the carb cleaner come through. Also run a wire through the jets as well don't trust air or cleaner to get them 100% clean.

The header pipe furthest to the left was cool when I started it. So I would assume that is the cylinder not firing.

I pulled the carbs, all the bowls have gas in them and only one had very minimal sediment/debris.
Removed the main jets and pilot jets and none appear clogged. I can see through all and blow through all of them?

I probably pull the plugs tomorrow.

there is more than a main jet and a pilot jet. Did you take the whole carb apart? pull the needles? the tube the main jet sits in? Did you run a wire through the circuits the jets are in?

    Re: Calling Carburetor masters

Quick update, I soaked the main and pilot jets and blew air through the circuits. And cleaned the bowls, I did not run a wire through anything.

Reassembled @ 11:00pm last night and the number 1 cylinder header pipe is still cool when running. This morning I swapped the number 1 cylinder spark plug w/number 4 cylinder spark plug and guess what.

Number 1 cylinder header pipe is now hot and number 4 is cool. I'll change all 4 plugs shortly.

Anyone know where I can buy Seafoam local to Framingham? The gas tank has some debris I like to flush out.

Doesn't sound like plugs but maybe the coil. Check the plug wire ends as well.

it was an honest suggest they sell carb bikes, so i'm sure they sell carb treatments. but now that chris mentioned it, Autozone should have it too.

    Re: Calling Carburetor masters

I put the new plugs in and drained the tank again. Put fresh gas and Seafoam in and what do you know I have all 4 cylinders firing!

Took for a ride on rte 9 to 495S and a few miles before Hopkinton I started losing power, by the time I got to the breakdown lane it died.

I tried to start for a few minutes and it would sputter and then die It would start w/the choke on, but opening the throttle @ all would kill it.

So while I was deciding who to call for a ride, I popped the gas cap and tried on more time. ItfFired and one by one each cylinder kicked in. The only thing I can think of is the vent for the tank was plugged.

Rode home and blew out the vent hose on top of the tank and the fitting going into the tank. Rode it about another 80 miles and it was fine. Carbs definitely still need some help, but it runs and drives.

Pulls like a freight train and first gear is useless except for spinning the tire.
The bike is unbelievably clean original w/10k miles from the original owner.

    Re: Calling Carburetor masters

You should have sprayed everything down with carb cleaner instead of just spraying air through the passages. All you gotta do is take the bowls off and floats off, and spray though every hole you can find until the can's empty.
