Chain question

This might sound like a stupid question but i just finished putting my chain on Thursday. Got it nice and hot this morning and lubed it up. The question is when its on the rain stand the chain isnt smooth it almost moves a little bit side to side, maybe like 1mm if that. Now i know the old chain did that but i wasn't sure if the new one was supposed to do it as well and if its normal.

did you replace the sprockets along with the chain? You should have. If it is the old sprockets then you are probably seeing the wear of them. And they will also destroy the chain

Sorry i should have clarified, i did replace the sprockets with Sunstar steel sprockets drive and driven sprockets. I also have the chain slack at 1in right now like in the manual for the f4i. It almost makes like a burring sound, i'm pretty sure its fine when riding around but idk if its normal or not. Hopefully its nothing major, i did nothing the front sprocket move a tiny bit when i put it on but the old one did the same thing. Once it was torqued down and the chain on it didnt move at all so.

Keep it cleaned and lubed every 5-600 miles and it should last you 20k miles.

Yea this one lasted 18k, put it on the dyno and this is how it came out.


I can def feel the power increase now even with the stock gearing. Feels so much better.

a At least eyeball the rear sprocket make sure it is running true

check the chain after a couple hundred miles.

yea the rear sprocket seems alright, the chain does move side to side at one point for like maybe 1mm or 2 but nothing major.

imagine what the engine would get

haha yea at least 300+ right Jim? Now imagine if i had the new chain and sprockets on there how much id get. Im losing between 5-10hp on there.
