i have one of the 'older' ones. looks like that new 'rod' is hollow, mine is definitely not.

Calling the bent bar a 'fatal flaw' is a bit dramatic. A replacement is cheap and easy to find. But it definitely looks like they've made changes since I bought mine a few years ago. The HF lift is about the best $300 I ever spent on a tool. It makes working on a bike so much easier, definitely worth the money.
