So I had to use exhaust sealant on my last exhaust due to a small leak.Apparently this stuff melted with the heat and stated running down the y-pipe.It's kind of like soap stains.
Any tips on cleaning this ?
Tried Simple Green,WD40 so far with no results.
Try "goof off" with a green scour pad. Then follow up with mothers metal polish paste. The goof off should get it off and the polish will make it nice and sparkly.
Thanks,I'll try the Goof Off..Don't really care about it shining I just want the stains off.
WD and a little elbow grease with scotchbrite.
find some spray on Kaboom. spray in on when a little warm, not ho and then rinse off. look like new.

I ended up using some oven cleaner after trying Goof Off,steel wool,Simple Green and just about every other cleaner I had lying around.
I put the Y-Pipe in the oven for a bit then sprayed the oven cleaner on(Fumes caught me by surprise and were pretty bad) and let it set for a while, then used a Scotch Brite pad and scrubbed the hell out of it.Results were what I wanted and has the brushed stainless look again, almost perfectly matches the pipes on the new Akrapovic slip-ons I bought.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
Good to know. You just used regular old Easy-Off oven cleaner?
Ya,though if I had to do it again I would get the version of oven cleaner that you can use in a cold oven.
The fumes were pretty bad,I thought I was going to pass out...I think the regular oven cleaner needs a lot of heat for the chemicals to do their thing.
