Hey guys. Newbie here and new user to the forum... hello!
So I just bought a 2008 Suzuki SV650 and it needs 7 days to pass inspection. Well, the bike is rideable but I need to replace the rear tire as it is fairly worn and I'm not sure it will pass inspection, and all the local shops want to change and arm and a leg for tires ($150 for a shinko + $100 installation fee) so I bought tires online, but they won't come until Saturday.
However, this Friday is the last day I can get inspection. How do I get my bike inspected after this? Do I need to get a truck from like UHAUL to drive it around? Is it possible to get inspected now, fail it, and then come back?
Any suggestions?
Drive it with the expired sticker. If you get pulled over tell the officer your going to get it done right now.

either trailer it there or ride it and hope for the best.
I wouldn't stress so much about it. Get your tire, have it mounted and ride over to the inspection place whenever that's ready. If by slim chance you get pulled over just tell him exactly what happened...a couple things needed to be done and your literally heading to get it inspected. my .02
I'd just ride it, you'll be all set.

i road for a year without a sticker. eat your lucky charms, dont ride like a tool, and eventualy get it done.
Hmm thanks for the votes of confidence. I'll probably just try to ride it then, and have a friend drive behind me.![]()

woodsy considering my bike is 90 percent better then it was yesterday due to your generosity i will let that insult slide
My best friend rode a bike without a sticker for 2 seasons. Don't ride like a dick and you'll be ok.

I think the only time cops care is when you get pulled for something else or they wanna bust your balls. Either way you're gonna have a nice little road side chat.

In NH, you can go to the DMV and get a pass that lets you legally drive it for a short period of time with the intent of giving you time to get repairs done and an inspection sticker. If you really want to be legal, you may find that MA does the same. I would not bother, but that's just how I am.
You can inspect it first, with the old tire. Who knows, they might pass it with the old tire. The worst that can happen is it fails, then you get like 2 weeks to fix the defects and reinspect, for no additional charge. They won't give you a sticker, but they do give you a receipt that allows you to be legally on the road during that time. Make sure to take care of any other potential problems too. You can find the safety inspection requirements online. Make sure your horn works, license plate is illuminated, rear turn signals are 9 inches apart, etc.
And don't get ripped off by the dealer for the tire installation. It's pretty easy to do yourself, or there are a few people on boston craigslist under "motorcycles" who mount and balance tires for around $15 or $20. You just need to get the wheel off and back on the bike yourself.

I was pulled over on my KTM w/o the inspection sticker or mirrors and the cop didnt notice either.....![]()
Are you sure about this part? I live in MA. I'm not sure if this is true though. Can any other MA resident verify this? I was hoping it would be something like this, in which case I would get it inspected and fail so I could at least be riding legally still.
@LaRNZ yup I asked mike already![]()
i road mine for 2 months without inspection.
Like everyone else said, as long you aren't riding like an ass, most cops aren't going notice. It's not June yet (when inspection stickers expire).
As for the Failure of Inspection, it's true that you have time to get certain stuff fixed, typically non-safety items, you can have up to 30 calendar days to resolve the issues and get it re-inspected. There are certain other things that you are allowed to operate the vehicle to and from a mechanic or inspection station only, and those are typically safety issues. I've never had a bike fail inspection, so I don't know specifically. Maybe Sheppo can chime in.
just ride it til you can get tricky mike to put a tire on, its not that big of a deal. like everyone else said, as long as youre not riding like a douche you'll be fine

Yes. I went in for an inspection on my first bike. I failed due to turn signals not being DOT and my front tire was needing to be replaced. I rode on the blank plate with the receipt in my jacket. It took me a few weeks to get the work all completed. I was not a regular rider as this all happened during February and into March.
Like everyone is saying. Just ride it to get the tire set, then ride it to the inspection station. Do NOT go until you are ready. It is more a hassle than it is worth. Get the work done, then inspect.
I just bring my plate in, and they slap a sticker on it.
