I am changing my engine coolant for the first time this weekend and I just have a question. When you refill the bike and start bleeding the air out of the lines how do you know when all the air is out of the lines? or do you guestimate?? Remember I am a complete newb on this.
put the new stuff in
run it and when it goes down fill it
let it cool, check it
run it
check it
check your over flow
wait a week and check it again
~ Life passes most people by while they're busy making grand plans for it.~
also i recommend adding about 1/4-1/2 a bottle of water wetter. I used honda coolant from the dealer before (even though i ride a kawi) and it all disappeared within just a couple minutes. That was with an engine with ti headers so the heat gets very hot, but none the less water wetter never hurts to add.
Check your manual.
Use pre-mixed, aluminum safe coolant.
Add coolant very slowly.
Start bike and allow coolant to expand with heat, rad cap off.
Turn bike off, install rad cap and top up overflow to it's marks.
Check back in a week, keep an eye on temps during that period.
Hey Eric, starter working alright?
I have found that sometimes you get air pockets in the engine that cause overheating if you pour the coolant in too quickly. I siphon it in with 1/4" ID vinyl tubing. Obviously not all engines are susceptible, but it's easy enough to do, and a lot less messy. It does not replace bleeding either.
