ok so i sold my 250 this past may to my next door neighbor...long story short he feels like i screwed him over (our families are really close and they're pissed at me) bc all of these problems started occuring with the bike and it really only ran well for two weeks after i sold it to him.
TLRman helped me out greatly with the 250 the first time...and i'd really hate to bother him again so..
is there anybody willing to help out a fellow NESRian and have look at the bike and potentially fix it?!
its a 97, carbs are leaking, gas is leaking, and i'm not sure exactly what else could be the problem at the moment...
any help would be SUPERRRRRR
thanks guys

My KZ does that occasionally.
The diagnosis I received was that a float was stuck open, allowing gas to backfill into the airbox, into the oil, and eventually onto the ground.
I'm not sure if your old bike can suffer the same situation, but it's possible.
A good carb cleaning/rebuild should fix it, assuming that's the issue.
yeah, sounds like a float issue.
If I was closer...

Stef, I got your message...
Will see what I can do. Was a little busy, and got this nasty head cold to boot!
I'll ring you up today.

If the bike has a petcock on the tank - is it turned to Prime? This will cause gas to fill the carbs and piss out on the ground on some bikes. Hope this helps.

For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction - and sometimes a scar...
is it leaking gas from the tank? if so there was a recall awhile back on that. it leaks from the weld on the fairing bracket that connects the tank to the cowl. i smelled like gas for a while before i figured that one out. what did your buddy do to that thing? he buys it (as a newb presumably) and rides it for 2 weeks and it starts leaking like the titanic? how is this your fault again?

Stef, did you ever replace the old tank that leaked?
Just wondering....
If this is the case, there might be crap that got stuck in between the needle and seats.
Either that, the donk started to screw around with something he shouldn't have messed with.
Lemme know...I'll arrange to look at it, but make sure he realizes that he keeps his comments to himself. Or it's HAMMER TIME!

Another thought: if it does turn out to be crap stuck between the needle and the seat, have you / they installed a fuel filter? The 250s of that vintage didn't come with them from the factory, and a fuel filter can help keep crap out of the carbs (for $3 and 15 minutes of work, plus with the see-through ones you can easily confirm gas is flowing out of the tank when in doubt).
lol thanks marky mark...and no i never replaced the old tank but i did tell him about it so...not my fault. annnddd from the pictures i've seen apparently your hammering skills have made quite the name for themselves
and thanks everybody else...hes getting it looked at by someone right now (his fathers doing, since he owns a harley hes become an expert) and hes gonna let me know what the problem is...mark and sheppo i'll be sure to update you guys thanks a million

If they try to come back with some lame thing wrong with the bike tell them to go screw. I hate when people do that shit. I sold my car to a kid and then he came back saying all this stuff was wrong with it. Turned out the gas cap wasnt on all the way and the engine light turned on.
