For the folks that use a bat tender, do you just plug it in and let it go till spring, or on a week off a week.... can't remember were I read that it should be on/off... seems like a pain to remember though....

The whole point of the tender is that you never need to unplug it -- it monitors voltage and only charges when necessary. This is much better than the old trickle chargers that keep on charging away forever until the battery fails -- with these you did have to manually plug/unplug them periodically.

Nope. A trickle chargr could do that.. As well as ruin yoir battery. A proper tender charges, checks, waits until battry voltage drops below a certain point, and then charges again.Originally Posted by Manny

I use an automatic charger and rotate it from battery to battery each week. I've been doing this for years. Three 4-wheelers, TL-R, the boat & the Corvette batteries all get their turn - one week on, 5 or 6 weeks off. Seems to have worked fine these last few years...

battery tender is the best thing ever. my quad drains the battery quick in the cold now its always fully charged. makes starting the a big single allot easier in the winter.
I have one of these Battery Minder. It has been working great. I used to have a Battery Tender but it fried for the second time so I decided to try a different brand. Just to explain though the Battery Tender lasted 10 years so it did a good job.

Going fo the third year on my $30 battery tender. Not sure of the name, but his had a huge ac/dc converter as a plug with a yellow sticker on the front. Three lights that show when it has power, when it is charging the batter, and when it is monitoring the battery. has a quick disconnect line so I can go from jumper cable like clips, to round electrical connectors.
plug it in, forget about it, and take the battery off it when I'm ready to ride in the spring. works great and well worth it.

Figures! All this talk and my charger DIES! Too fookin' funny! Yip, just went down to the garage for a quick schmoke and realized the meter wasn't jumping around. Went over & gave 'er a slap, starts working again. By time I'm done my schmoke, nope. Flat again. Does shit like this really happen?![]()
