Hey everyone, I've always been freaked by the idea of riding in the rain. I just don't do it.
Just out of curiosity, Can riding a bike in a downpoor do any harm??example:can water go into the air ducts, soaking the airfilter and enabling water to enter the motor???Is this possible?? THanks
you can drive a car in the rain can't ya ? what's the difference
When I did my Ironbutt BB1500, 700 miles was in the rain, started raining in Harrisburg, PA, never stopped raining till I got to Georgia

I took my MSF class in the rain. Good way to be fine with it right away.
From what I gather the biggest issue would be from you getting wet, cold, and disoriented, but I highly doubt that would happen unless you were out all night in the rain for hours with not enough layers on. I have ridden in a downpour and my only real problem was my face shield fogging up on the inside and being too wet to see through on the outside.

If you run into a wall with a helmet on, you still ran into a wall.
Riding in the rain is great. Just take it easy, especially during the first 15 mins of a storm. Cagers are a lot less likely to see you so leave extra room.

You have less traction in the rain also. Things like painted lines and manhole covers get pretty slippery.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
I generally ride a gear up so I have a little less power at the wheel. Take it easy, less speed in corners, and like Hessogood said, watch out for painted lines and sewer covers
Also watch out for oil at stoplights, I come to the light in the left or right of the lane in rain...not the middle, where the oil is...

ya it's possible---don't do any deep puddles---and like "hessochafrigginobviousgeniousgood" said - watch out for obvious slippery stuff!Originally posted by FireFly

Make sure to get some good gear.
If you ride in the rain long enough and it's cold enough you will have major problems with hypothermia and exposure if you're not prepared.
That is the biggest issue. You're only going to run into that on a trip in all likelihood though. Say you leave on friday and it's 65 degrees and sunny. Saturdays real nice. Sunday you've got 300-500 miles to ride home and you wake up and it's 40F and raining hard.
If you've got jeans + a leather jacket you are fooked riding that far in the rain, especially if you have to ride through the mountains.
I got caught out pretty bad my first season before I got my gear all figured out. Make sure you have a full set of raingear or otherwise totally waterproof suit before going too far in the rain. Don't forget your boots & gloves too. Wet gloves aren't the end of the world if the rest of your body is warm and dry but wet boots are an absolute disaster. I got my boots (which said waterproof) got totally wet when I had to ride about 300 miles in heavy rain and it took a full week for them to dry out afterward.

You suck at life. Why don't you quit?
My dad told me I could be anything I wanted when I grew up. So I became an Asshole.
trying to ride in the snow is suicide, I remember back in my dirtbike days, I tried to ride on a lightly snow covered street, mabe an inch or two, semi packed. I must of ate it 3 times in the span of about 10 or 15 feet....A quad is one thing a bike is another, Its different if your riding trails where the snow is deeper assuming you got the right tires as well.....Trying to ride in the snow with a STREET BIKE Is Asking to get spanked by the pavement with in seconds. VERY BAD IDea. Thats like base jumping off the roof of your house with a garbage bag.....![]()
