Okay, this isn't off my bike but I got a new gas tank for my 3000GT and there is some verry light rust inside. Should I bother with a rust treatment/acid bath or just fill it and run it?
The worst part is the filler hole which I could get to by hand easily.
Don't want this to be a big project but I have the tank out and I'm on the fence...

I say fill it and run it.

First you screw, then you bolt.
Kind of what I'm leaning toward.

Tough one... it doesn't look bad at all. For me, I'd probably get my soda blaster out and give it a quick hit.
If I didn't have my soda blaster, I'd probably just get to any easily accessible parts and then fill and go.

Yeah, run it. Anything you hit it with will likely flash rust even worse than that before you get gas in it.
I threw a little vapo rust in then rinsed with gas. Yeah, didn't want to mess with treatments or rinse with water, the rust is pretty mild.
Definitely cleaned up the rust spots at the bottom and some other crap, nice clean gas in it now.

Is there an external fuel filter you can change in a few hundred/thousand miles? That'd probably be ideal.

Yep. She's running again. That old tank was a mess
