So I tried for the 2nd time to get this bike to run right. The bike will not idle all of the way off choke. And even if you leave the choke partially on, so it will idle around 1,250 rpm or so it will die after a while. I also tried all combinations of the idle screw and the choke, etc. Nothing works. I assumed that it was the pilot jets, so I took off the carbs and cleaned everything up and put it back in. Did not make a difference at all. Thought it might be bad gas since it only gas 500 miles on it. No such luck...same thing. So the only other thing I can think of it bad spark plug? It runs great otherwise though. Pulls great all around the rpm range, just won't idle.
Thanks guys!

Feel both header pipes. It may be running on 1 cyl. If one is cooler then pull that plug wire and see if it changes.
Are your valves in spec? If they are too tight, you will experience this symptom.
You still have a clogged jet somewhere.
I had the same problem with Komaki's '09 KLX 250 The jets are just so small they clog quickly. I have been using a constant double dose of SeaFoam to combat the problem.
And did you sync the carbs?

Sync the carb to what? Itself?
No, to the one right next to it!

I would try to replace the slow jets, They can be so mall that is is tough to get them truley clean if they clog.
and +1 to what degsy said. Make sure you are on both cylinders. The bike might not make enough power to keep it self running at low rpm on 1 cylinder but at higher rpms it will run ok.
The oriffice on that pilot jet is stupid small. I'd use a C-hair joke but we all know what would happen there.
Most electrical wire strands are to big to go through. Also if there was a problem with the carbs than the plugs may be fooked as well. Just went through all this shit with Carla's 250.

Ok the pilots were clean when I took the carbs apart. I have taken apart many, many carbs and they are clean. I also synced the carbs, well...they were already in sync. The bike only has 500 miles on it. It is also running on both cylinders. And I have the K&L carb tool and it works great!

My pilots were clean too. It was the main jets that were clogged. And yes they are tiny too.
I could get my bike to idle with the choke, but as soon as I give it any throttle it would die. Does that sound familiar?
My other guess would be stuck float or some other blockage.
My first thing would be to check spark to make sure it was just a fuel issue.

I'm an idiot. Was thinking of a cb250. Doh!

Did you pull the EPA caps and adjust the idle screws? If not, I'd consider trying it—that would definitely affect idle but not higher-RPM running.

Those carbs aren't very difficult to work on, and the pilots are easy to clean out.
Check the valve clearances.
Also, drain the bowls as soon as it dies. You may have water accumulating down there.

How are you pulling them? After doing Carla's they seem real easy to get off and on.
1.Unbolt the 2 bolts under the battery
2.move the spring clamps on the airbox side of the carb boots
3.Pull the air box back
4.remove boots from aribox
5.remove the throttle and choke
6.unscrew the clamps on the engine side
7.pull the runners off and the carbs out
